Indybay Code Upgraded

We have moved the site to a new server and upgraded the code to make it more flexible to allow for future changes.

Most of the changes we are making are to the admin functionality that editors use to update the site (and were written to deal with the way we now handle geographical region pages), but you may notice a few other changes. Adding events will be a bit different and you will no longer get a confirmation number (we may add it back at some point). The preview, gallery, archives and search pages will also look a bit different.

The code changes we made also make it much easier to make future changes so if you think any small change (or even major features) would make the site better, post a comment with your ideas and we may be able to implement them.

(figure I should post this here and then remove and add stuff as its done or new requests are added)

-validation of publish form fields before file list is shown to prevent losing of images after a validation failure
(you just have to reselect them now but if you dont look then you can end up posting 20 nonimages)

- event confirmation numbers

- rss feed without Santa Cruz (so us and global site dont get blurbs syndicated twice)

- cleanup of the rss feeds so images appear on the us and global sites

- code to prevent ALL CAPS in titles, author names, summaries or text

- region names in redlinks (links at the top of the page) on topic pages and the front page

- bottorent server needs to get setup and bittorent feed needs to be generated

- code to prevent duplicate posts

- ability to attach a flyer to event posts

- comments of some sort (maybe requires editor approval) on events so updates and more details can get added

- ability to pull in feeds from other regional news sites to prevent the number of manual reposts

- alt text is not working on center column blurbs

- rss feeds that mix local/global posts and blurbs (right now blurbs are not clasified local/global so there is no way to mix)

- better use of timestamps on cached files to prevent caching when peopel add comments etc...

- ability to search by author name and email

- jpeg rendering of pdfs so people can get a feel for what they are downloading

- jpeg rendering of first frame of videos so people can get a feel for what they are downloading

- an audio icon on audio posts (since just the text will look wird if everything else has images)

-some way to make emailing articles easy without opening the site up to use as a spam engine
