Drug Abuse in Sonoma County
Informing the community of drug abuse in Sonoma County.
Drug abuse in Sonoma County is at an all-time high. Within the years of 2010 and 2017, the percentage of opioid overdoses went up 50 percent. Within only Sonoma County, the percentage of patients that end up in the emergency room is higher than California as a whole. Drug abuse is at a staggering rate that contributes to increasing homelessness.
What’s worse is drug abuse already being considered an epidemic in Sonoma County. With the county trying their hardest in making sure their residents stay clear of the route of drug abuse it still somehow takes a toll on a large population of this community.
I believe that is an issue that needs to be addressed because it is something that is not commonly seen with fentanyl being a common drug but also a new one, this is what has created the use of drugs higher. It’s scary to know that any of the drugs that are roaming around right now can be laced with fentanyl. Drug abuse continues to grow in this country. I believe that not enough resources are put into it because the numbers of residents continue to go up and the homeless population is also rising.
