Hella Occupy Oakland! 6 Month Anniversary!
There was as much food as at any of usual Occupy Oakland "Occupy the Hood," celebrations. Food Not Bombs was there, plus a few of Occupy Oakland's regular (?) [not infrequent?] chefs.
The cops started out with several attendees from their department. Then two vans with cops in riot gear showed up, then two more vans... They wanted to party like it was WW3, they certainly came dressed like they did. I am not aware of any arrests, although someone's PA system was aggressively taken and confiscated. I think the cops were mad that they did not get any ice cream. It looked really scary when they blocked off the north and east sides of Oscar Grant Plaza, although honestly they didn't have the man power to surround anyone, and on the south side of OGP it was possible to negotiate tactical avoidance of police. Occupy Oaklanders prevented police from taking video footage with one of the large OO# canvases. See you at Saturday's Fuck the Police March at 19th and Telegraph at 9 pm, rain or shine people, let's show the police we really care!

A message from an Indigenous elder on the six month anniversary. First, the good the occupation movement actually started a good amount of time after the bank (KKKorporation) bailouts which worked well because its too late for the powers at be to hang someone out to dry or make up in other ways. The occupation movement has grown in short time in knowledge, spiritually (decolonize-no money) and experience. The movement has not yet been co-opted and has not broken from the 99%, very powerful but the movement needs to get back to occupying public spaces (commons-Oscar Grant Plaza and Parks) not buildings (cops, arrests and short amount of occupying). The power of occupying 24/7 is a powerful tool to be a base where a variety one day protests can branch off of. We need to get back into the plaza and keep the pressure on the city clowns (Mayor Quan, De la Puta and Larry Reid).
