Tell SF Bd of Supes We Support Medical Marijuana Everywhere
March 29, 2005, Item heard at 5 p.m.City Hall, San Francisco. Green Party Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi is sponsoring a reactionary moratorium on pot clubs which must be protested immediately and loudly. We will not go back to the fascist 50s; we voted 78% for Prop 215; we must continue to provide leadership by encouraging pot clubs everywhere and by supporting legislation to legalize all drugs as exists in most countries, thus getting all drugs off the street and eliminating the prison-industrial complex.

If you find it incredible that a Green Party member would be so backward, take a look at the March 29, 2005 Board Agenda, at Item 35 on the Agenda at:
http://www.sfgov.org/site/uploadedfiles/bdsupvrs/bosagendas/a032905.htm
This is also on the agenda as Item 29, sponsored by Supervisors Mirkarimi, Alioto-Pier, Maxwell, Peskin, McGoldrick, Elsbernd, Ammiano, Ma, Dufty and as Item 28.
This is the second time Mirkarimi has taken a reactionary position; the first being the promotion of a Catholic Church, St. Brigid's, as an historic landmark. As far as I am concerned, the promotion of these two items is sufficient grounds to never vote for Mirkarimi as he is just as reactionary as the Democrats.
Meanwhile, PROTEST NOW by phone as they all have voice mail, as well as Email and US mail. The US mail address is Board of Supevisors, City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton Goodlett, San Francisco, CA 94102.
Anyone who supports medical marijuana being sold everywhere, including in welfare hotels, and anyone who supports legalization of all drugs and eliminating the prison-industrial complex, should call, Email or write TODAY.

Call the Supes and thank them that Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi is courageously taking on a contentious issue for better study.
Marijuana for all its touted advantages is still (rightly or wrongly) illegal elsewhere in the country and is associated in mind and fact with organized crime which only cares about making money-- not you, or me.
If health and medicine is your concern, then it is reasonable to encourage our government representatives to take an interest in making sure that we are not exploited by those who wish to capitalize off of good intentions.
Right now, marijuana sales in the city are virtually free-wheeling with almost zero oversight: a magnet for unscrupulous opportunists.
When I take a measured look around-- I do not see a particularly healthy city or a very healthy public. For that, we have lack of universal health care to blame-- and greater cutbacks in social services. Far too long, the health of our citizens has been held ransom by greedy profiteers.
We should not let the medicinal marijuana trade flourish in the direction of becoming exploitative. Many questions about the trade are still unanswered and unscrutinized.
It is wise for our officials and ourselves to scrutinize and understand how medicinal marijuana in San Francisco fits into the bigger picture that describes America as it exists today with all its bounty, uncertainties, paradoxes, and challenges. Our Health, Happiness, and Pursuit of Liberty demands that we do nothing less.

Sorry, but you guys with your "medical" marijuana are just so fucking dishonest I can't take it anymore.
Yes, I believe that there are some instances where marijuana might be of help to people with certain illnesses. I have a friend with multiple sclerosis who swears marijuana has helped her deal with the pain and stress (however, she was a regular marijuana user before coming down with the disease, so she's not an entirely objective source).
However, the *overwhelming* majority of "medical" marijuana users in Northern California consists of retrograde hippies who cynically use Proposition 215 as a legal excuse for staying stoned, useless and self-indulgent for most of their waking hours.
I'm not a puritan on this subject, believe me. I used marijuana on a daily basis for over 20 years, and grew it commercially for several of those years (one of my customers during those years was Dennis Peron, back when he was just a plain old drug dealer rather than a "compassionate medical marijuana provider"). I don't use it anymore precisely because experience (my own and that of others) has shown me that it is anything but benign or harmless. Yeah, sure, as long as you stay stoned, you won't see that; try staying off the stuff for six months or a year and you will begin to see.
What's that, you can't go without marijuana for six months or a year? Or even a couple weeks? Oh, but I thought it wasn't addictive?
If marijuana indeed has legitimate medical uses, it should be overseen by medical practicioners just like other dangerous but potentially helpful drugs (i.e., morphine), not by a bunch of random hippie dope dealers masquerading as health care experts.
