Please join State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, the California Department of Education, and students from across the state on Tuesday, February 16,
from 4-5 p.m. for a virtual Black History Month conversation with Dr. Shirley Weber. The conversation will be streamed live at on the CDE Facebook page.
First elected to the California State Assembly in 2012, Dr. Weber has been a voice of moral clarity in the Legislature, providing leadership on issues of racial/social justice. Dr. Weber is making history in her own right by being the first-ever African American to serve as Secretary of State in California.
During the virtual dialogue, young scholars from around the state will have a chance to engage in an interactive discussion about Dr. Weber’s experience over the years, the importance of teaching black history and elevating black excellence all year long, and the power of civic engagement.
