A. Ocasio-Cortez Addresses Failure of U.S. Gov't to Address Poverty

by repost
As New York Congressperson Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stated to an empty congressional room, on YouTube, the Senate broke for a holiday week while the workingclass of the USA starves. As New York Congressperson Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stated to an empty congressional room, on YouTube, the Senate broke for a holiday week while the workingclass of the USA starves. You should know that in China, before the 1949 revolution, the government would pick up the bodies of those who died the night before, homeless and hungry. That is the stage we are witnessing right now, with a pandemic added to the horror. Life expectancy in China in 1949 was 35. This is what Democrats and Republicans tell us is democracy; everyone else calls this a fascist oligarchy, of, by and for the rich.

Since the 1949 Chinese revolution, when socialized medicine was promoted by the new socialist government, along with socializing everything else, life expectancy increased to age 78 today, better than the American workingclass, which has declining life expectancy since 2014. The same is true in all countries that had socialist governments or at the very least, promoted socialized medicine, along with all other social reforms of the 20th Century, most of which do not exist in the US. All of Europe has socialized medicine now, known as Medicare for All, HR 1384 in the US. See https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/house-bill/1384/cosponsors?searchResultViewType=expanded

This is the real America, a government that serves the needs and interests of the rich and only when the workingclass screams loudly enough do they toss a few crumbs to us. She stated that the March CARES Act lifted 18 million out of poverty in April. That fell to 4 million in Sept when benefits expired. (Heard on the YouTube speech.) 1 in 5 renters are delinquent in rent. 30 weeks so far worse unemployment claims since 1930s Great Depression. Vaccines are publicly-developed by private companies and then sold to the public by private companies with no discount.

Quotes from the Common Dreams article accompanying the Youtube speech:

"He [Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell] broke the Senate, and dismissed the Senate, while 30 million Americans are on the brink of eviction," she continued. "He dismissed the Senate when every single day, when we go back to our communities, people are asking us, 'Where is there going to be help? Is there going to be a second stimulus check? Are we going to get the resources that we need?"

"Ocasio-Cortez also noted critiques of how the $4 trillion that the U.S. government has put toward the pandemic response has been spent. As the Washington Post reported last month:"

"[More] than half of that sum, roughly $2.3 trillion, has gone to businesses that in many cases didn't need the help or weren't required to show they used the taxpayer funds to keep workers on the job."

"By contrast, about a fifth, $884 billion, went to help workers and families. And even less aimed at the health crisis itself, with 16% of the total going toward testing and tracing, vaccine development, and helping states provide care, among other health-related needs."

"In her floor speech, Ocasio-Cortez responded to Republicans' concerns about covering the costs of future relief for Americans by noting that when he "authorized a $4 trillion leveraged bailout for Wall Street in March," McConnell "wasn't concerned about, 'How are we going to pay for that?'"
