Music Of Vitamin Em During Coronavirus Covid-19 Pandemic
The music of Vitamin Em during the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic
By Lynda Carson - April 30, 2020
Oakland - Out of the midst of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic that has created so much fear, pain, desperation, panic and death, comes the beautiful music of Vitamin Em, a local group of musicians residing in Oakland, and Berkeley.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic that has swept across the nation killing over 60,000 people, the residents of Alameda County including people in Oakland, and Berkeley, have been ordered to shelter-in-place since March 17, 2020. The shelter-in-place orders have been extended as of April 29, 2020, until further notice.
The coronavirus pandemic has been a great financial hardship on musicians and luthiers/guitar builders in Oakland, the Bay Area, and beyond.
Due to the vicious nature of the virus that is killing so many people across the nation and around the world, one never knows who will be the next victim to become ill from the virus, or die from it.
The Band Called Vitamin Em:
In recent days, Oakland cellist Michael Graham, a member of Vitamin Em, sent me an email with a link to a recently finished music video of the song called Beautiful Child, written by the founder of Vitamin Em, Emily Onderdonk.
The musicians played together on-line while sheltering-in-place, and it took over 50 hours to create the music video of the song called Beautiful Child.
Vitamin Em is part of the local music scene in Oakland, Berkeley, and the Bay Area, that puts a new spin on funk, jazz, R&B, Soul and fiddle music.
Additionally, the music video of the song called Beautiful Child has been submitted to the 2020 National Public Radio (NPR), Tiny Desk competition.
Vitamin Em:
Beautiful Child, written by Emily Onderdonk.
Matthew Szemela, Evan Price - violins, Emily Onderdonk - viola, Michael Graham - cello, Paul Hanson - bassoon, Dan Cantrell - accordion.
In memory of Matthew Onderdonk. Submitted to the 2020 National Public Radio (NPR), Tiny Desk competition.
