Stop Hoarding Food
I went shopping at Safeway in San Francisco today and found many empty shelves. The one section that was fully stocked was the fruit and vegetable section, nature's medicine chest, as most fruit and vegetables have Vitamin C, nature's antidote to viruses, infections and cancer. There is no reason to hoard anything at all.

There is no reason to hoard anything at all.
Let’s begin at the beginning. We learned at age 3 to wash our hands after going to the bathroom. By now, we all know that so the endless insulting Emails we receive from our private profit medical provider such as Kaiser, telling us to do same and if we wish, use stinky hand-sanitizers that irritate the eyes, nose and throat, thereby minimizing if not eliminating any useful effect, are a waste of the money we pay these private profit providers.
Then there is the fact that the common cold is caused by a virus. We all know to get plenty of rest, eat hot food and drink hot tea when we have a cold. There is no cure for a virus and no antibiotic works on a virus The old saying FEED A COLD AND STARVE A FEVER is true with any virus. You may have slightly elevated temperature from this latest virus, but it is more likely caused by your anxiety since it is not a bacterial infection. The nice thing about colds for anyone who has an excess weight problem is that we can eat food with slightly higher calories.
The San Francisco school system has made everything worse by CANCELLING ALL CLASSES until April 3, 2020. That means for 3 long weeks, the parents whose children do not qualify for free or reduced price breakfast and lunch will have to feed them and hire a babysitter, or if none is available, stay home and care for the children. The 11,600 children in San Francisco schools who are from low income homes will be fed breakfast and lunch at libraries and indoor recreation centers by the taxpayers. It is unknown what else they will do for 3 long weeks. Presumably, the school year will be extended 3 weeks.
Meanwhile, San Francisco, a city of almost 900,000 people, has 23 cases of coronavirus, with no deaths from this latest virus. Most if not all will survive. We have more cases of heart disease, cancer, kidney failure and all the other possibly fatal diseases in this society than we have of the coronavirus.
Hopefully, next week when we go grocery shopping the shelves will be fully stocked. After all, the hoarders will be still munching all the fattening crap they bought and will not be shopping.

Your statements about the physical effects of infection by SARS-CoV-2 are grossly misinformed. You seem to think this is no more serious than a common cold or seasonal flu (sounds like Tr*mp's words to me). Have you any idea of the massive load this pandemic is placing on healthcare systems across the globe? It has brought Italy to its knees. It has brought China to its knees. The case fatality rate in Italy is approaching 7% in some areas. The seasonal flu with which you have drawn comparisons typically has a case fatality rate of less than 1%. The seasonal flu is considerably less contagious than SARS-CoV-2.
The situation is so severe in Europe that medical students are now being recruited by the tens of thousands to assist, even though they have not completed medical training.
And here you are complaining that classes have been cancelled in schools (thus slowing the incredibly fast spread of this virus). And worrying about hand sanitizer. If you don't want to use hand sanitizer, then USE SOAP AND WATER - it works better anyway.
You also claim that San Francisco has 23 cases. This is a horrible misconception. Testing for COVID-19 in the US has been criminally inadequate, largely due to the lack of response by the current occupants of the White House. The figures you're seeing for infection rate is CONFIRMED CASES ONLY, and in a system where testing is all but non-existent, those numbers are meaningless. The real numbers are, based on estimates given by virologists, epidemiologists and statisticians, would indicate there are likely thousands of infections in San Francisco. And it's already known that the rate doubles every 5-6 days without any intervention (ie: school closures, shutting down public gathering places, etc...)
There is simply not enough room in hospitals, not enough protective equipment for hospital staff, not enough mechanical ventilators to accommodate the massive surge in critical cases, and not enough staff. And in the US, lack of access to affordable healthcare is going only cause further harm.
Yes, it is true that 80% will have mild symptoms. But 20% will have severe critical symptoms. Based on data from worldometers.info, the current US population is 330,441,184; 20% of that population is 66,088,236. That is the number of people, assuming a 100% infection rate, that would reach critical or fatal stages of illness. And you're ok with this??? And keep in mind that predictions from health authorities worldwide are indicating around 60-75% of the population will be infected, leaving 49,566,177 people in the US alone in severe condition.
