Sheepdogs Sanders & Warren Support Anti-Abortion Democrats

This begs the question as to whether or not they would support anti-integration Democrats who prefer the old racist segregation that existed as a matter of law in many states before 1965. After all, before the realignment in 1970, Southern Democrats were known as Dixiecrats until they became Republicans in 1970. Let us remember we won the right to abortion in 1973 with a Supreme Court ruling, Roe v Wade, written by Justice Blackmun, a Republican Nixon appointee, with Justice White, a Democratic Kennedy appointee, dissenting, because we had a mass movement from the civil rights movement of the 1960s to the peace movement that became enormous until 1973 when the draft ended. As a result of these mass movements that spawned the rebirth of the women’s liberation movement, we won the right to abortion over 40 years ago, yet Sanders and Warren are still willing to support proponents of the bad old days, when women died from illegal botched abortions, often done with coat hangers. This is profound backwardness that must be rejected.

Abortion is part of women’s healthcare and must be free upon demand and available for any stage of pregnancy. Every child must be a wanted child and the parents, both of them, must be able to provide financial and emotional support to the child for its entire 18 years of legal childhood. The Hyde Amendment must be repealed so that there is federal funding for abortion for all women.

The Hyde Amendment has been enacted every year since 1976 with various exceptions, signed by Republican and Democratic presidents. The Hyde Amendment restricts abortion coverage for federally-funded healthcare recipients, specifically women enrolled in Medicare and Medicaid, Native American women, U.S. servicewomen and veterans, women in Peace Corps, female federal employees, D.C. women residents, and women in immigration detention facilities and prisons.
