Unite Against the War on Women: Sacramento
In front of capitol buildings across the United States, women and men gathered to protest the war being waged against women and their bodies, rights, and freedoms.
Across the nation on Saturday, organizers of the national movement "Unite Against the War on Women" said that legislative proposals, government regulations, and political rhetoric, are evidence that a war is being waged against women, their bodies, rights and freedom.
A catastrophic wave of anti-women bills is sweeping the nation. In California, Governor Jerry Brown has recently proposed to eliminate the California Commission on the Status of Women, the only state agency that has the authority to ensure gender equality. The Office of Women's Health is being integrated into the Office of Health Equity, and could face budgetary cuts.
Hundreds of women and men gathered at the capitol building in Sacramento, held a two hour rally, then marched to a nearby park on Saturday, to show that California needs to be at the forefront to keep the tide from turning against abortion and other women's rights.
