Free Skool Winter 2012 class "Mass Media, a Critical Intro."

People's alternatives to corporate-owned news class

Date and Time: Sat. Jan 7th, 2012 (this Saturday), 1 - 2 p.m.

What to bring: Writing utensils & paper (or laptop) will aid recall.

Description and aim:

We'll look at what kinds of news tend to be omitted in the mass media, what kinds of things are reported instead with a look at framing, and how we, ordinary people, can find investigative reporting and alternative sources that will inform us, allowing us understand domestic and world events not from the perspective the of dominant power structure of the status quo and hopefully lead to desire to participate in positive social change.

Level: From no knowledge and up. All residents and not just regular free skool participants are invited to attend and should take something away from this class. Attendees will be given a list of some interesting alternative-press resources.

Asking questions about the content of the page below will lead into what we'll talk about in the class.
