Last year’s event drew nearly 3,000 people, according to Theresa Saunders, founder of the center, and this year promises to build upon this regional popular event.

"The vendors pushed to expand and grow," Saunders said. "Many sold out last year."

The event - from 9 a.m. to Sunset, De Carli Square will bring the Stockton Waterfront alive and bring all ages, ethnic communities and faith based communities together in the heart of the California Central Valley.

Part of this year's Soul Food Fair is devoted to Health Education. "Soul Food is the calling card, but we the regional community to come out and learn about healthy solutions to a positive lifestyle," Saunders said. "The African-American community has a high mortality rate ... suffering from high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes and other chronic disease, they're issues that need to be addressed."

"Regional Health care providers are slow to support authentic community based organizations that build infrastructure within our communities, it is a public policy paradigm shift that the Stockton Soul Food Festival directly speaks a target audience for health disparity, says Michael Harris, Director, Central Valley Kwanzaa Celebration, togegher we can make a difference."

Entry to the Soul Food Festival and entertainment is free, but food, and arts and crafts will be for sale.

Donations to the African American Arts and Culture Community Center are requested to continue year-long programs that directly support the regional community.
