PLEASE JOIN US AT LAKE MERRITT BART STATION on AUGUST 10, 2011 @3:30 pm for a RALLY DEMANDING JUSTICE 4 RAHEIM BROWN Jr. At 4:45 pm we will march to the Oakland Unified School District building where the family and the community will present their demands directly to the school board at its first meeting upon returning from their summer recess.
RALLY TO SUPPORT THE FAMILY OF RAHEIM BROWN!
On January 22, Raheim Brown Jr. was gunned down by Oakland School Police Officers Barhin Bhatt and Jonathan Bellusa.
Raheim’s murder was not caught on camera by passersby and did not make international news; however, police violence has been an increasing threat in the wake of Oscar Grant’s murder contrary to what city officials would have you believe.
The recent assassinations of Charles Hill by BART police and Kenneth Harding by SFPD are undeniable proof that cops in the Bay Area act with total impunity. As community members, not only do we need to step up our game in supporting the families left grieving after state violence claims the lives of their loved ones and demand that cops be held accountable but we need to support actions and demonstrations that have been organized and planned *by* the families and not just *for* them. A sustainable movement against police brutality is guided by these families and recognizes that without their input and leadership, our movement is weakened immensely.
On August 10, we will rally in support of Raheim Brown’s family who have chosen to gather at Oakland School Board’s monthly meeting to confront the unnecessary and brutal murder of Raheim who—like Oscar Grant—was a loved community member, just out of his teens and a young father with a child on the way.
WHEN: Wednesday, August 10, 2011 3:30pm
WHERE: Rally at Lake Merritt BART then join us as we march to Oakland Unified School District Headquarters where family members will address the school board during their first monthly meeting of the school year.
WHO: Everyone that has been affected by police violence and their allies!
