Let’s create a new kind of ANARCHIST GENERAL ASSEMBLY!
Saturday July 16th
12 – 5pm, BBQ to follow
6501 Telegraph Ave. (Near Ashby BART)
Oakland, CA
~~~
The first in an experimental series of regional anarchist general assemblies will be held in Oakland on July 16th, 2011.
The purpose of this assembly is to strengthen ties within the Bay Area's anarchist community by providing a regularly occurring event to share projects we’re working on, discuss the topics we are organizing around, promote collaboration and solidarity between different groups, spark new initiatives and build our collective capacity as a social antagonist force. The assembly will not be a decision-making body; it will not create platforms or manifestos.
~~~
ANARCHIST GENERAL ASSEMBLY* SCHEDULE
12:00 – Introduction (UA in the Bay)
12:10 – Presentations (15 min. each)
- Prison Activist Resource Center
- QUARREL

1:20 – On Moving Forward with the Anarchist General Assemblies (UA in the Bay)
1:30 – Break: allows interested audience members to speak with presenters individually.
2:00 – Discussion Breakouts (2 – 2.5 hours each)
- Precarity, Austerity, and Hella Broke (Homes Not Jails, Bay of Rage, A Month of Vengeance and Autonomy): Presentation of new initiatives (housing/squat syndicate, SF anti-austerity initiative, World Homeless Action Day mass takeover) and discussion including ongoing work around budget cuts and the financial crisis.
- Environmental Anarchism in the Bay (individuals): Discussion about the issues surrounding anarchist environmental organizing in the Bay Area, with the hope of generating new initiatives.
- Fuck Facebook (Indybay): Social Media, Blogs, IMCs, and the Future of Radical Media in an Increasingly Corporate World
5:30 - Potluck BBQ, Informal Sessions and Social Time, Willard Park (Derby & Hillegass, Berkeley): Any content which didn’t fit into the allotted times above is encouraged at the BBQ. Vegan meal provided, but potluck encouraged; meat eaters BYOM; 2 grills and coals provided. Alcohol not provided, but BYOB or whatever.
* The assembly will be a safer space; people who exhibit oppressive behavior will be asked to leave.
~~~
UA in the Bay is scheduling the day’s events and coordinating logistics for this first assembly. The structure we’ve come up with is not rigid and participants will be encouraged to give feedback and help organize future assemblies. We're doin our best, striving to be transparent and accountable in the way we set up this event, and rolling with the punches as they come... :)
