AC Transit Director Joel Young's ex-girlfriend was granted a restraining order against him after he allegedly battered her after she found him in bed with another woman, court records show.
After finding Joel in bed with another woman in March, the victim confronted Young. He attacked her and she was hospitalized, according to court filings. She later went to police, then filed for a restraining order (Alameda County Rene C. Davidson Courthouse - Case No. RF-11565774, filed 3/15/11)
In court papers, Young claims that he was not in an exclusive relationship with the woman, and that it was her that attacked him. He claims the woman is trying to extort and embarrass him.
After responding to the woman's request a restraining order, which was temporarily granted, Young requested a restraining order against the woman (Alameda County Rene C. Davidson Courthouse, Case No. RF-11570894, filed 4/14/11). A hearing on the domestic violence allegations is scheduled for August.
Court records for both cases are below. The woman's name has been been redacted in court documents to prevent revictimization.
Young was appointed to the AC Transit Board of Directors in 2009. He was elected to the same at-large seat in November 2010. He recently declared his candidacy for the California State Assembly, District 16 for the 2012 elections.
