KPFA News Managers & Union "marty" MIA On Covering Rally To Defend ILWU 10

by Stop KPFA News Censorship
On April 25, 2011 in San Francisco an important Northern California labor rally in defense of ILWU Local 10 took place to protest the suit against them by the Pacific Maritime Association. Despite the coverage by KTVU Channel 2 KPFA news directors Aileen Alfandery and Mark Meriacle ignored the story. Apparently their feud with ILWU Local 10 Executive Board member Clarence Thomas and ILWU Local 10 got in the way of doing the coverage.
KPFA was missing in action MIA at an important Northern California labor rally to support ILWU Local 10 on April 25, 2011 which has been sued by the Pacifica Maritime Association for the rank and file taking work action on April 4, 2011 in support of the Wisconsin workers. Apparently KPFA News CWA managers Aileen Alfandary and Mark Mericle who also is a vice president of the CWA 9415 Local decided that it did not even deserve a mention on the evening news cast. The show which is posted at http://www.kpfa.org/archive/id/69266 does spend time on alleged corporate donations to a New York WBAI program and interviews a number of people. Union "martyr" Brian Edward-Tiekert has lots of stories on other things but not the important bay area labor action right across the bay in San Francisco. The CWA Northern California Organizer Libby Sayre has also also recently sent a scathing attack on ILWU Local 10 member Clarence Thomas for appearing on the Morning Mix show and apparently in retaliation the CWA News department managers have decided that they will censor the news when it comes to defending ILWU local 10.
KPFA listeners and supporters need to contact the manager of KPFA andrew [at] kpfa.org and the News Department management 510-848-6767x699 and call on them to cover the news as professionals and not tailor the news to their political agendas. The calls by the KPFA Worker blog about union busting doesn't seem to cover their manipulation by the News Department management at KPFA.

OH? No KPFA support? I hear that ILWU had no WOMEN speakERs and had to drag them out of the audience. The only women who were allowed to speak were heckled by Steve Zeltzer and Stan Woods, neither of whom have had a union job in YEARS.
by Richard Phelps, KPFA LSB and former Chair
There were several women speakers and Stan only heckled Pam Drake when she lied about what is going on at KPFA.

Mr/Ms Ghost, Did you go to the ILWU support rally ? If so how could you miss the several women speakers from various unions ? I don't know if anyone heckled Pam Drake of the Save KPFA group but i was told that all of the organizers were upset that using the pretext of her union affilation she got the mike but then used it to present a one sided view of the situation at KPFA
I don't work at KPFA but there's long standing Progressives on both sides of the issue . Can't someone sponsor a debate and each side present their case ?

the "ghost of Lew Hill" apparently is ok with falsification of the news and ignoring and real news stories like the ILWU Local 10 defense rally. The slander of the ILWU Local 10 rally by this Save KPFA supporter is the real face of their "labor" views. The news propagandists who run the KPFA news department are operatives for Save KPFA and the management CWA union. These are the same "labor" people who supported the calling of the police on Nadra Foster and then would not report it on the news program. So much for professional integrity. Their union "martyr" Brian Edward-Tiekert was involved in trying to de-recognize the Unpaid Staff Organization and dissolve the Program Council and their former agent operative manager Lemlem Rijio before she left in disgrace put Brian in his position without posting the job and doing any interviews. This was nepotism and cronyism to a tee which these "labor fakers" have been playing for years. Where was their so called "union" when these things were taking place?
