As the issue of Same Sex marriage is covered widely in the media "Beyond Gay Marriage" takes a critical look at the Gay Marriage movement and asks : Why is gay marriage the primary issue of the Gay Community ? ; Is Same Sex marriage really the issue most LGBT people are interested in ? What effect does the funding and emphasis on Same Sex Marriage have on displacing other crucial life and death LGBT issues ? This radio documentary presents the voices of LGBT scholars and activists seldom heard in the media, all of whom provide a cutting edge critique of the "Gay Marriage" movement and the mainstreaming of gay politics and talk about what progressive Queers are working on instead. Featured are the voices of important LGBT scholars like NYU Professor Lisa Duggan, Law Professor Dean Spade and Portland State University Professor Priya Kandaswamy, as well as LGBT activists like Kenyon Farrow, Executive Director of Queers for Economic Justice, Brian Bassinger, Executive Director of the Aids Housing Alliance, SF and Kate Kendal, Executive Director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, as well as many others . This documentary provides a critique you will not hear anywhere else in the mainstream media, yet it is a critique that raises fundamental questions about the direction of the Gay movement and Gay marriage.
