Election 2012: Stewart Alexander Will Seek Green Party Presidential Nomination

by Richard Perry
Stewart Alexander says his intentions to seek the presidential nomination for both political parties is based upon the common interests that are shared between the Green Party and the Socialist Party; addressing the needs of the working class, creating good paying jobs, protecting human rights, protecting the environment and ending the U.S. occupation in Afghanistan and Iraq.

In July, U.S. Socialist Stewart Alexander announced that he would seek the 2012 Presidential Nomination for the Socialist Party USA; now Stewart Alexander has announced that he will also seek the Presidential Nomination for the Green Party in 2012. In 2008, Stewart Alexander was the Vice Presidential Nominee for the Socialist Party USA and achieved ballot status in 29 states.

Presently, Stewart Alexander is the first candidate making the announcement for both political parties. His early announcement is timely; President Barack Obama has been sliding in the national polls and some polls show his approval rating below 44 percent. Recent polls are showing Congress with a much lower rating; below 18 percent.

Alexander says, “Americans have gotten the wake up called and are no longer under the ‘Obama Affect.’ President Obama, along with Washington Democrats and Republicans, has gone on a wild spending spree. Obama has failed on his promise to end the war. Obama and Congress are creating a welfare nation and have failed to create jobs; and against the will of the nation, Obama and Congress forced a ‘clunker’ health care bill onto working people that will only protect the interest of the super rich.”

Within days of announcing his candidacy for president, Alexander introduced a national economic recovery program; he refers to the program as “A Better Deal.” Stewart Alexander is calling for unconventional measures to revive the U.S. economy and to create jobs; he is calling for all banks, financial and insurance institutions to be socially owned and operated by a democratically-controlled national banking authority which should include credit unions, mutual insurance cooperatives, and corporate state banks. While running as the Socialist Party’s 2008 nominee for Vice President, Alexander proposed a plan that would include other North American countries to form a North American Banking Authority.

Alexander says “The struggles for working people are global; we need global solutions. In the 21st Century, it has become necessary to reorganize the entire world banking system.” To meet the growing needs of working people, Alexander is proposing the creation of a Universal Basic Income (UBI) to help eliminate poverty and to meet the basic needs of working people and the long term needs for seniors.

Alexander’s political career spans three decades. In 1986, he was a political activist and state lobbyist with the Florida Consumer Action Network (F-CAN). During the late 80s, Alexander was a political talk show host in Los Angeles and in 1989 he was a Candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles. In 1998, Alexander joined the Peace and Freedom Party and was the party’s candidate for California Lieutenant Governor in 2006. In 2007, Alexander became a member of the Socialist Party USA and was the party’s Vice Presidential Nominee in 2008. Presently, Stewart Alexander is the Chairperson for the Socialist Party of California.

Presently, there are more than 40 potential Democrats and Republicans considering a run for president in 2012; however, Stewart Alexander says, 2012 will offer the greatest opportunities for third political parties and third party candidates; “Working people are ready for government that works for the people.”
