Demand Justice from BART April 8th : Civil Disobedience at Embarcadero Station
Demand justice and accountability at BART on April 8th
Why are we doing this?
For well over a year, BART management has steadfastly refused to hold its police officers accountable for the murder of Oscar Grant. Take Tony Pirone, for example, a police officer who knelt on Oscar's neck and called him a "bitch ass ni**er" just before he was shot. Community activists protested, went to meetings, collected petitions, and made phone calls... Even an independent investigation, paid for by BART, recommended that Pirone be fired.
Yet BART has not had the decency to even discipline, let alone fire Pirone. We believe that BART management is a disgrace and BART police are a danger to the community. We are calling for the public to intervene, and join us in preparing for mass civil disobedience inside Embarcadero BART station on April 8th at 4pm.
We will demand:
* Fire Tony Pirone. BART must stop rewarding racism and murder.
* Charge Tony Pirone. The DA must hold Pirone accountable for his criminal actions.
* Disband the BART Police. Sacramento must amend the BART Act — BART cannot be trusted with police powers.
We're asking you to:
