Fresno Bicycle Activists take over freeway
Radical members of the Fresno County Bicycle Coalition Take over 2 and a 1/2 miles of Highway 180.
Radical members of the Fresno County Bicycle Coalition (FCBC) occupied over 2 miles of freeway 180 in Fresno today. With the strategic placement of official looking road closed signs several members of the FCBC were able to take over a portion of highway 180 for about 45 minutes this afternoon. The bicycle activists enjoyed the car free highway for almost an hour by poseing for photos and performing bike stunts (jumps, wheelies, etc) before deciding it was best to leave on their own terms when law enforcement showed up.

it's people like you that give cyclists a bad name. how would you like it if a bunch of cars lined up and blocked a bike trail, huh? when you take over a freeway it just makes drivers more angry at the law abiding cyclists. road rules were made for the good of all of us, just like other laws. all laws should be obeyed all the time. without law it would be anarchy! imagine, people deciding for themselves what to do.
if every group of cyclists blocked roads all the time, people would probably stop driving altogether. and where would that leave us? you need a good taste of the strong stinky arm of the law to hug you and make you feel loved and cherished for the precious snowflake that you are, that we all are. cars and bikes at peace. once and for always. blessed be chief dyer. over and out.

good action, but i think it would have helped if there were cars actually on the road.
i always support riding your bike on the freeway:

This "action" appears to be on the unopened section of SR 180 (which is due to be opened to traffic later this week according to the Fresno Bee).
no - it looks to me like this is a finished, old stretch of freeway (no construction is visible nearby), but it is a lesser used section at the end, where it splits off in several directions. Maybe nearby construction helped them convince people that the road was temporarily closed. Clearly, they aren't occupying I-5 or something.
Anarcho biker needs to get his facts straight.
Yes, we rode on an UNOPENED section of Highway 180! Yes, there were signs blocking the on-ramps, placed by CALTRANS! NO SIGNED WERE MOVED OR ALTERED! Yes, this stretch of freeway is new, and has YET TO OPEN! This section of freeway IS CLOSED TO ALL AUTO TRAFFIC! NO, WE DID NOT PUT UP FAKE SIGNS! NO, WE DID NOT INCONVENIENCE ANYONE AT ALL!
The only people in the Fresno/Clovis region who knew we were on the freeway were those who were there.
Whomever posted these photos and the narrative that is associated with them is misrepresenting what actually happened, up to and including trick riding. All LAB vehicular cycling safety guidelines were complied with.

Well Le Poseur, if this story is false then I have a question for you: Why weren't you and your group blocking actual freeway traffic? If you want to get any respect as a cyclist you are going to have to start taking shit over. A lane of blackstone with critical mass is a start, entire intersections are even better, but ultimately we need to be shutting down freeways with hundreds of cyclists.
NOW GET OUT THERE AND TAKE OVER THE FREEWAYS!!!!!
NOW GET OUT THERE AND TAKE OVER THE FREEWAYS!!!!!
Agitator, get real! Bicyclists wouldn't last five seconds playing in traffic on any of Fresno's active freeways. And, try shutting down one of the main thoroughfares? Probably 50% of Fresno drivers pack heat, and more than a few of them wouldn't hesitate to emphasize angry comments with whatever they had in their vehicle (like an AK-47 or other assault weapon).
50% of Fresno carries illegal assault weapons in their vehicles? That's strange since most of these "gang" members that FPD are killing are unarmed, I would think with over half of Fresno being armed that a bulldog would be the last person to be caught unarmed.
Remember too, the teabaggers shut down freeways with tractors, there are ways to do almost everything, you just gotta have some imagination and guts.
