CA Gov. Schwarzenegger Announces Appointment Of Crooked Safeway Inc. Risk Management VP And CA Fraud Assessment Chair To SCIF Board Of Directors

William Zachry, 54, of San Carlos, has been appointed to the State Compensation Insurance Fund Board of Directors. Since 2008, Zachry has been vice president of risk management for Safeway, where he also served as vice president of corporate workers’ compensation from 2001 to 2008. Prior to that, he served as senior vice president and chief operations officer for StellerNet from 2000 to 2001. Zachry was vice president of claims for the Zenith Insurance Company from 1998 to 2000, C.E. Heath Insurance from 1987 to 1998 and Western Employer Insurance from 1985 to 1987. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $50,000. Zachry is a Republican.

Injured worker advocate Dina Padilla attended a meeting of the California Fraud Assessment Commission FAC in Sacramento on 9/9/2009 and challenged the Commission which is under the Department of Insurance for a conflict of interest. The chair of the commission William Zachry is also a Vice President of Safeway Inc. Risk Management and has done damage control for the insurance industry. Steve Poizner, who is the California Insurance Commissioner has also personally been presented with evidence of fraud by insurance companies and employers and has also refused to prosecute.
