Fresno Homeless Czar Speaks Out

by Mike Rhodes (editor [at] fresnoalliance.com)
Gregory Barfield, the City of Fresno Homeless Prevention Manager (AKA the Homeless Czar), granted me an in-depth interview today. We discussed why the city is leaving money for the homeless unspent, year after year, in their budget, the concept of “Safe Ground” (a campground where the homeless could safely and legally live), and when the city is going to start providing housing vouchers for the homeless. 51:36 minute audio.

Gregory Barfield (center) is talking to Bill Simon (left) and Georgia Williams (right). Bill and Georgia are with the Fresno chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. Behind them is a “clean up” crew from the City of Fresno Sanitation Department. They are in a homeless encampment on G street in downtown Fresno called The Hill.
