First, before you write Tristan off, the news of his recovery is positive thus far. I fully expect to have him back among us.

Second, the fact that a tear gas canister hit Tristan directly in the forehead does not mean that it was fired with "pinpoint accuracy." That is what's called result-oriented reasoning. I doubt tear gas is even capable of being fired with "pinpoint accuracy."

What is painfully obvious is that Israeli soldiers were deliberately firing high velocity, long range teargas, a dangerous, potentially lethal weapon, on people who posed no threat (not that I'm suggesting that occupied oppressed people are required not to pose a threat), likely because they have a well-demonstrated lack of regard for Palestinian lives, and continued to do so while medics worked to save Tristan.

Your conjecture that some twirling-moustacheod agent of the UC Regents wanted Tristan dead for participating in the treesit yet waited until he got half way around the world to suborn his murder, tracked him to Naalin, convinced the IDF to try to murder him, somehow gave them a sufficient description to track them himselves (assuming they could even see him clearly from the distance he was shot at), and that they used a non-precision weapon, i.e. teargas, to try to do so, is LOONEY TUNES. I seriously doubt Israel wants this international scandal on its hands.

Not everything is an arch conspiracy. Your need for rational evil does not make it so any more than the religious need for rational order and goodness.

Israel is America's assassination squad around the world. As soon as I heard that (a) Tristan was hit in the head and (2) that he was a well-known activist for many decades, with the evidence being the years of articles on this website, it was OBVIOUS that this was an attempted assassination. It is not just the fact that the University of California is part of the US government, it is all the many travels around the world by Tristan, participating in people's struggles in foreign countries, and across the US as well, doing the same for many years. There are no coincidences.

The soldier was shooting towards the people, but why do you think the University of California was involved? Wouldn't it have been easier to pull the people out of trees last year or to find them locally? Also, Tristan was hit with a large cannister. These are newly developed and are easier to aim, but aren't the preferred projectile for hitting a specific target. If they wanted to hit a particular person, they would have used a bullet. In the west Bank, half of the time people are hit with real bullets,but not with Tristan

Being obsessed with grand conspiracy narratives and perceiving them everywhere isn't necessarily a provocation by agents of the state nor necessarily the expression of extreme wingnuttiness. There are conspiracies generated by the ruling class, if by conspiracy we understand that members of the ruling elite get together to discuss and plan various skirmishes of the class war. Facts often clutter people's analyses, leading them to pare them down to a few seemingly relevant and connected reductions. Many conspiracy folks reduce facts to those which -- coincidentally -- only bolster the perceived conspiracy, while ignoring the wider context and complexity of the world. This is not to say that UC harbors no resentment toward Tristan, but Occam's razor would tend to dismiss the notion that UC has such long and powerful tentacles that they can both alert the Israeli military police on the West Bank to one particular activist's presence and arrange for an "accidental" maiming with an admittedly nasty, but highly inaccurate weapon. The Israelis have shown themselves perfectly capable of using sniper fire against activists from the ISM, which they also classify as "accidents" so if Tristan had been targeted specifically for death, they would have been able to hit him with a sniper or arrange a traffic "accident" or plane crash or something else more efficient and historically proven in black ops.

While no theory is necessarily impossible, this stretches the bounds of belief to the point of snapping and popping out the eyeballs of bystanders. First, it doesn't pass the occam's razor test. Secondly, it's a real stretch to think UC actually has that much pull with the US government. Third, dude was protesting in what was essentially a WARZONE and one where fucked up things happen to innocent people all the time (actually, that is part of why your argument fails the occam's test).

If anyone one maliciously planned Tristan's attack, it was some IDF soldier a couple of minutes before hand. That's the most likely explanation. Why? Because despite what you've said, Tristan was no true thorn in the side of UC...they won. They had plenty of time to wait and the treesitters were just an annoyance. In fact, the tree sit was a dismal failure and an embarrassment at all levels. A bunch of activists sitting in the equivalent of their neighbor's rosebushes so that he couldn't rip them up to put in a spa...a nice sentiment, but it made all tree sitters look koo-koo and accomplished nothing.

What really happened to Tristan? He went somewhere where his protest actually WAS important and got hurt for it...that's what often happens when activists do things that actually matter.

Yes, there are coincidences. Yes, there are also conspiracies. The wisdom is knowing the difference between the two, and this is no easy task as the evidence is fleeting and "proving" a conspiracy theory as fact is next to impossible..

However, the best tool for understanding "conspiracy theory" is looking for patterns in historical data and declassified CIA documents from the previous decades..

Operation COINTELPRO and other plots were dismissed as conspiracy theory UNTIL the FBI and CIA by freedom of disclosure act declassified their documents stating that these operations did in fact exist. There was also Operation Bluebird, Operation Mockingbird and many other code named plans by the CIA to derail, disrupt, discredit and dispose of unwanted activists..

Maybe the "coincidence theorists" of today only believe that the CIA practiced these attacks in the previous decades and now are "not allowed" to engage in such activities, or the activists of today are somehow less important than the activists of the sixties who were victims of the now disclosed COINTELPRO operations!?

Would the CIA, FBI, IDF and other police state agencies not also learn from their mistakes of previous operations like COINTELPRO and try to improve upon their effectiveness today, or even attempt new and yet undiscovered and undisclosed operations to discourage activism??

An activist like Tristan who can switch from treesitting in Berkeley to helping the Palestinians defend against IDF incursions shows some skill and resolve that would be a threat to BOTH the UC police AND the IDF..

Now establishing that the IDF and UC Berkeley police are somehow in cahoots is a bit of a stretch, though it isn't entirely impossible in our digital age of photos over the internet. Not like some UC Berkeley cop needs to hop on an airplane and personally visit the IDF headquarters in Israel to share info about Tristan. Just one simple click of a mouse and there goes the photo from CA to Israel in five seconds!!

Within another few decades the freedom of disclosure act will demand the release of the operations of today, and won't everyone (except Fireball and other conspiracy theorists) be surprised that the FBI, CIA and IDF were all sharing info with one another about these activists?!

Allow me to point out the fact that Tristan isn't the only one of the tree sitters who've receintly have been targeted. The Monday following his injury, Dumpster Muffin was at the solidarity demonstration in San Francisco. She was well disguised, but apparently not well enough. A guy on a motorcycle drove between her and some cops, nodded at them and sped away. Immediately, the cops rushed Dumpster Muffin and attacked her. It may interest you to know that she too sustained a head injury.

Think about it. Two tree sitters had head injuries within 72 hours. I say this is no coincidence. Tree sitters are at risk. How many more have to be hurt before people wake up to this fact? Only time will tell.

I'm not convinced of the "UC was behind it" hypothesis, though i;ve heard it, including from Dumpster muffin, but it really pains me to ehar a bunch of people, all supporters of Tristan and the causes dear to him, going and attacking each other on this site.

I have my own suspicions not so much about whether it was planned in advance to target Tristan specifically as to how much i;d trust an Israeli surgeon with my precious brain and being...and ;d like some good up-to-fate medical information on just what has been done thus far. (I've got decent training in anatomy, psysiology, and neuropsychology and can probably be helpful translating some medical-speak into ordinary English. and worked with a lot of people who have sustained traumatic brain injuries.)

This is veering off subject from what happened to Tristan, though this additional info could help people who are struggling with believing to what extremes the CIA/FBI/DHS/etc... will go to subvert the will of the people..

Another CIA mind control tactic was "Operation Bluebird", and could be nicknamed the "Manchurian candidate" test complete with psychological operations designed to control people's behavior..

Given these extremes, how unlikely would it be for the CIA/FBI/DHS complex to email a few photos of Tristan to the IDF intel officers with a small file attached, sort of as a warning to the IDF about an activist worth noting, maybe with a suggestion of possible options to disable this activist??

Here's the CIA Operation Bluebird background, released after freedom of information act;

"Cold War Mind Control Experimentation

BLUEBIRD was approved by the CIA director on April 20, 1950. In August 1951, the Project was renamed ARTICHOKE. BLUEBIRD and ARTICHOKE included a great deal of work on the creation of amnesia, hypnotic couriers, and the Manchurian Candidate. [13][14] ARTICHOKE documents prove that hypnotic couriers functioned effectively in real-life simulations conducted by the CIA in the early 1950’s. The degree to which such individuals were used in actual operations is still classified. P. 23

The BLUEBIRD and ARTICHOKE documents available through the Freedom of Information Act, like all such documents, are heavily redacted. A great deal of text has been whited out, and other documents must still be entirely classified. BLUEBIRD and ARTICHOKE were administered in a compartmented fashion. The details of the programs were kept secret even form other personnel within the CIA. When asked why LSD research done under ARTICHOKE was hidden from the CIA Committee in charge of ARTICHOKE, Sydney Gottlieb, Chief, Medical Staff, Technical Services Division, CIA, responded, “I imagine the only reason would have been concern for broadening awareness of its existence.” P. 25, 27

An article in the February 18, 1979 Wilmington Sunday News Journal states: “The ARTICHOKE interrogation was conducted in a safe house in the remote countryside staffed by security-cleared personnel. It was conducted under medical cover of a routine physical and psychological assessment. The Subject was transported to the safe house in a ‘covert car.’ At the safe house he was given a conventional interrogation and then some whiskey. This was followed by two grams of Phenobarbital, which put him to sleep. A lie detector test was given, and the Subject was given intravenous chemicals. Following the chemically-assisted interrogation, the ARTICHOKE techniques were applied in three stages. A false memory was introduced into the Subject’s mind without his conscious control. The procedure was repeated again with interrogation added.” P. 28

ARTICHOKE operations involved detailed, systematic creation of specific amnesia barriers, new identities and hypnotically implanted codes and triggers. An ARTICHOKE document dated 7 January 1953 [15] describes the experimental creation of multiple personality in two 19-year old girls by the CIA. “H” is used as shorthand for hypnotic, hypnotized, or hypnotism:

“These subjects have clearly demonstrated that they can pass from a fully awake state to a deep H controlled state via the telephone, via some very subtle signal that cannot be detected by other persons in the room, and without the other individuals being able to note the change. It has been clearly shown that individuals can be induced into H by telephone, by receiving written matter, or by the use of code, signal, or words. Control of those hypnotized can be passed from one individual to another without great difficulty. It has also been shown by experimentation with these girls that they can act as unwilling couriers for information purposes, and that they can be conditioned to a point where they believe a change in identity on their part even on the polygraph.” P. 32

Another ARTICHOKE document describes “Analogous Case #3.” “A CIA Security Office employee was hypnotized and given a false identity. She defended it hotly, denying her true name and rationalizing with conviction the possession of identity cards made out to her real self. Later, having had the false identity erased by suggestion, she was asked if she had ever heard of the name she had been defending as her own five minutes before. She thought, shook her head, and said, ‘That’s a pseudo if I ever heard one.’ Apparently she had true amnesia for the entire episode.” P. 32, 33

In an experiment described in a document entitled “SI and H experimentation [16] (25 September 1951)”, two female subjects took part in an exercise involving the planting of a bomb. Both subjects performed perfectly and were fully amnesic for the exercise: “[Deleted] was instructed that upon awakening, she would proceed to [deleted] room where she would wait at the desk for a telephone call. Upon receiving the call, a person known as “Jim” would engage her in normal conversation. During the course of the conversation, this individual would mention a code word. When she heard this code word, she would pass into a SI trance state, but would not close her eyes and remain perfectly normal and continue the telephone conversation. P. 37

She was told that upon conclusion of the telephone conversation, she would then carry out instructions: [Deleted] was shown an electric timing device. She was informed that this device was a bomb, and then instructed how to set the device. After [deleted] learned how to set and attach the device, she was told to take the timing device which was in a briefcase, and proceed to the ladies room [where] she would be met by a girl whom she had never seen who would identify herself by the code word “New York.” [Deleted] was then to show this individual how to attach and set the timing device and further instructions would be given that the timing device was to be carried in the briefcase to [deleted] room, placed in the nearest empty electric-light plug and concealed in the bottom, left-hand drawer of [a] desk, with the device set for 82 seconds and turned on.” P. 37, 38

The BLUEBIRD/ARTICHOKE materials establish conclusively that full Manchurian Candidates were created and tested successfully by physicians with TOP SECRET clearance from the CIA. P. 61

As well as being potential couriers and infiltration agents, the subjects could function in effect as hypnotically controlled cameras. They could enter a room or building, memorize materials quickly, leave the building, and then be amnesic for the entire episode. The memorized material could then be retrieved by a handler using a previously implanted code or signal, without the amnesia being disturbed. Hypnosis was not the mind control doctors’ only method for creation of controlled amnesia, however. Drugs, magnetic fields, sound waves, sleep deprivation, solitary confinement, and many other methods were studied under BLUEBIRD and ARTHICHOKE. P. 38

Another problem addressed repeatedly in the documents is called “The Problem of Disposal of Subjects.” Several personnel recommended the use of lobotomies for this purpose, but according to the documents this was rejected as too unethical and too high a negative publicity risk. P. 41"

My reason for posting this here is that i am disturbed by attitudes that somehow the worst is behind us and that the CIA/FBI/DHS complex is now "behaving themselves" and certainly wouldn't try similar or entirely new and unheard of tactics on the activists of today. We still need to wait several years before the freedom of information act takes effect and releases the results of current programs run by the CIA/FBI/DHS complex..

We take great risks when allowing overly naive thinking to make people oblivious of the potential for disruption coming in many different forms, and that these disruptive events (shelling people in the head, sending them to the hospital, etc...) are only simple 'accidents of coincidence' and to question the pattern of misfortunes befalling activists as something other than coincidence is "paranoid thinking brought about from excessive cannabis consumption" as some comments have stated..

While people should not allow themselves to be paralyzed by fear (the opposite polar extreme of overly naive 'nothing bad will happen to us now' thinking), we all must be aware that serious activism can result in potential "disruptions" ranging from physical/mental assault, gang stalking, so-called 'accidents', so-called 'suicides' and other interventions designed to disable activists from doing their work, as was the case with Tristan. Even if the disruption does not permanantly derail the activist, it is always a serious setback once it occurs..

Fireball does nobody any favours by trying to link Tristan's injury to the tree-sitting. Berkely could have made his life hell much more easily in CA. The claim on Dumpster Muffin is an even more ridiculous way to target somebody. Pull yourselves together folks, or look like idiots.

Looks like I struck a few nerves on this subject. Not that this was my intention, but I guess it's to be expected. But a little respect for my freedom of the press would be appreciated.

And I'm not trying to get people to panic either. I'm simply saying that those of us who were at the tree sit should be a little more careful these days.

Those who say that U. C. Berkeley would never do such a thing, probably never participated at the tree sit at all, or even read much on the subject. U. C. Berkeley used several dangerous tactics to extract the tree sitters, such as sleep deprivation, starvation, dehydration, and all out attacks using cherry pickers and cranes. Tristan's girlfriend, Millipede, was extracted when a cherry picker rammed into her tree 5 or 6 times, when she was dropped into the bucket of said cherry picker from 60 feet above the ground.

U. C. Berkeley has demonstrated that they have no regard for the lives of people. And as if this isn't enough, let's not forget that U. C. Berkeley is the birthplace of nuclear weapons.

To say that the university would not kill someone, is an act of ignorance, or very naive.
