KPFA Manager Refuses To Provide Manuals on KPFA Employee Rules To KPFA LSB Members
KPFA manager Lemlem Rijio is refusing to turn manuals for KPFA employees to the Local Station Board despite a unanimous resolution that requested this material. This was requested in October 2008 but the manager has refused to carry out the request. The lack of transparency by this manager and her team is supported by the "Concerned Listener" grouping who support the present management grouping.
KPFA Manager Refuses To Provide Manuals on KPFA Employee Rules To KPFA LSB Members
KPFA Manager Lemlem Rijio at the KPFA Local Station board meeting on March 14, 2009 refused to provide the station's personal manuals to the Local Board members despite a unanimous resolution passed by the KPFA LSB last October that she provide such material. She first tried to say the the manuals were confidential and then said she needed to talk to the Foundation Counsel to get "advice" about what to do.
The resolution came after reprimands against Pacifica programmers for encouraging listeners to attend anti-war protests. Miguel Molina was in fact reprimanded by the interim program director Sasha Lilley for urging support for an anti-war demonstration.
The Concerned Listener cabal that runs the station also announced that they are running a large deficit of over $150,000 but refuse to make the necessary cuts to eliminate the deficit. They refuse to replace their paid staff with unpaid volunteers despite the need to turn to the unpaid staff programmers and producers.
Rijio also refused to let the board know how much is being spent on outside consultants saying that this was "confidential". So much for transparency.
The Concerned Listener grouping on the board including Sherri, Gendelman, Bonnie Simmons, Brian Edward-Tigert, Brothers Conn and Matthew Hallinan, Husband and Wife team Warren Mar and Susan McDonough and Dianne Enriquez have continually defended the refusal of Lemlem Rijio and the management grouping to carry out their responsibilities.

Results for the KPFA Listener Election are now available at PacificaElections.org.
KPFA, the first listener-sponsored, community radio station in the United States, has emerged from a fierce struggle to preserve its local autonomy and its mission of peace and social justice. A major achievement in this struggle was the establishment of elected Local Station Boards at KPFA and throughout the Pacifica network.
Unlike the former local advisory board, the new Station Board has acquired important powers to better represent listeners, staff and volunteers. It is responsible for reviewing the station budget, helping to choose the station manager, and selecting Pacifica National Board directors from among its own members.
The Local Station Board holds monthly open meetings to which the public is invited and which include public comment periods.
