Deng Jongkuch, one of the "Lost Boys of Sudan", speaks about his courageous story of survival during his 15 year displacement from his home and family during the Sudan Civil War. Along with over 30,000 other displaced children, he endured grueling walks of over 1000 miles, lack of food and water, violence and years in refugee camps. Deng was one of 3800 fortunate boys selected to come to the United States in 2001. He worked his way through school and recently graduated from San Jose State University. Deng is committed to generating awareness about the plight of Sudan and gives many inspirational talks in the bay area and Sacramento area. He is a board member of ImpactAVillage, a California-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to improve education in Southern Sudan. This event is free of charge and open to the public. It is sponsored by Rocklin High School with assistance by Granite Bay High School and Impact a Village, Inc. The lecture will be followed by a Sudan Fair and raffle to raise funds to build a school in Malik, Southern Sudan. Don't miss this inspirational event.
