Announcing the Spring/Summer 2009 issue of Anarchy: A Journal of Desire Armed
Editorial: To Publish" by Aragorn!
Pacing, tactility, seduction, context, simplicity, clarity (copyediting and proofreading are beleaguered skills), beautiful writing, depth, informed debate, and personal relationships to authors are what has been lost. And it is likely that these things aren’t coming back, not in the anarchist or any other press. Moreover, there is a critical mass of readers who declare good riddance to retail pricing; long form essays; specialization of authorship; editorship; slow publishing schedules, and the amount of time it takes for periodicals to get to print. People are no longer waiting on print and, by and large, print publishers are fading away one by one.Review: Anarchist Studies Vol. 16 #1 by Lawrence Jarach Column: AAA: Gravity! by Oakland Association of Autonomous Astronauts | ![]() |
This issue of Anarchy: A Journal of Desire Armed is likely to be the last one that is available on the newsstands of major chains. While we have enjoyed the aesthetic options of having a full-color glossy cover (and enjoyed the incongruence of this magazine being in the consumer hells to which that glossiness gave us entry), our imminent change in format will allow us to publish more for the same amount (or less), and get to more of the people we want to read the magazine
There is no theme for this issue but includes two fantastic essays (including How the Stirner Eats Gods and the second part of our new translation of Call (Appel), an exciting series of current events analysis (Greece, Oakland, France), a review section that cannot be beat and more of the salacious letters you have grown to love.
Website
The Anarchy: A Journal of Desire Armed website continues to be an exciting place to visit. We have recently added a new blogger (former editor Jason Mcquinn) at http://anarchymag.org/mcquinn. We continue to have an unmoderated forum (What we are calling the Cesspool) for discussions about the magazine and more.
We have reconstituted our Anarchy Magazine Blog Aggregator at http://anarchymag.org/aggregator. Please drop a line to webmaster@anarchymag.org if there are problems with the site.
Subscriptions
If our plan to leave the mainstream newsstand behind is to succeed we need more subscribers to the magazine. We depend on them. If you read the magazine, please consider subscribing.
We offer a PDF version of the magazine for download. This is a great way to check out the magazine if you are an overseas reader. This subscription is $10 for 4 issues and will be delivered to your email box or downloadable from our website.
Our hardcopy subscriptions are still only $20 for 5 issues and we really need to grow our subscription numbers. If you read Anarchy there is no cheaper way to get the magazine delivered to your door than through a subscription. If you shoplift it, only read back issues, or just read the copy that sits in the bathroom, see this as a plea to help out a financially strapped project. In order not to rely so heavily on mainstream distribution channels we need more subscribers. Please consider subscribing.
