long beach fnb: invitation to all socal fnb
forwarded invitation from long beach food not bombs to all southern california chapters for a networking event
members of the long beach and northeast LA chapters of food not bombs have been talking about it, and we want to try to put together a really big food not bombs event sometime in the next few months. we're inviting food not bombs chapters from all over southern california to cook a big meal for each other and the community and just kind of...hang out?
in general, we want to try to build up the food not bombs network in southern california. fnb is by its nature run in small autonomous chapters, but we could probably all benefit from sharing resources and ideas. so lets get to know each other!
this is kind of the plan:
*WHAT: fnb chapters from around the region meet, get acquainted, and cook a meal together to share with each other and the community. we also will be (hopefully) handing out free uncooked produce to anyone who would like to take it home to use. feel free to bring guitars, ukuleles, small hand drums, flutes, kaleidoscopes, etc...let's hang out. let's get to know each other and make things better together. :) this is all going to be happening in a beeeautiful park in los angeles. which brings us to...
*WHERE: la culebra de la tierra park in highland park (east los angeles). acla (arts.community.land.activism!, formerly artscorpsLA) runs the park -- which was originally a public art project -- and they're down for the cause. they have been endlessly helpful to the northeast LA chapter and will be happy to allow us to both cook and hold the actual event there.
*WHEN: we're looking at april 4th or may 9th, because we may be able to get a small fleet of help from cal poly pomona's hermanas unidas organization. please let us know which day works best for you, if either. if neither works, please make suggestions. as for the time of day, we'd tentatively like to say 10:30 or 11:00am for fnb chapters to arrive and cook, and 1:00 or 2:00pm for it to be opened to the public to eat and hang out.
*HOW: please bring any donations you possibly can. don't break yourselves or make it hard to serve in your own cities, but if every chapter brings some food, we'll not only be able to cook a sweet meal, but we'll be able to hand out uncooked produce to families and individuals to use at home.
*WHO: as i write this, we're inviting the temecula, mvhs, escondido, oceanside, santa ana, whittier, corona, glendora, northeast la, silverlake/los angeles, long beach, and san fernando valley chapters. we're also hoping to invite the riverside, guerrilLA, santa barbara, and usc chapters...if you have contact information for any of those groups, please let us know. also, if i'm missing a group, tell me.
so. if you're interested, even a little bit, please get back to us! if possible, email me at fnbinthelbc [at] gmail.com rather than messaging back on myspace...it's just easier to keep track of. i'd love to hear any suggestions, ideas, qualms, questions...whatever. let us know.
