Do we have something on par with Katrina in the Bayview?

by Francisco Da Costa
Months - before the Katrina tragedy hit New Orleans - a neighborhood named Broadmoor gathered its constituents to plan Quality Of Life issues. When Katrina hit New Orleans - the Broadmoor neighborhood was devastated. The Federal Government and other Agencies felt that Broadmoor should be left as a vacant plot - some Open Space - no rebuilding. However, the constituents that lived in the Neighborhood of Broadmoor - thought other wise - they organized and were determined to built their Neighborhood with or without the help of the State, Federal and other agencies. Their fortitude and endurance is well known - well spoken off - all over the Nation. Kudos to the constituents.
Mayor Gavin Newsom and one Walter Shorestein who controls much of the Real Estate in the Financial District - have gone out of their way to build a Neighborhood Relationship - much as Cities build a Sisterhood Relationship.

On the face of it it sounds good that San Francisco which as far as I know is a City and County and not a neighborhood - would call itself a Neighborhood ( if it is figuratively - I know not ) and shout that we embrace Broadmoor as our Neighborhood.

As far as I know Broadmoor is indeed a Neighborhood - and because it is such - it was able to focus on the needs of the Neighborhood - and bring about first healing and then very quick action.

Gather millions in private funds and help build a library. Work hard as a family and bring this spirit to the attention of millions all over our Nation and the world.

As many of us know - when Katrina hit New Orleans - many of us reached out to New Orleans and the neighboring towns. We did this because many of us that live in San Francisco - have roots in New Orleans - others have good friends and relatives.

I surely have so many friends - that I took upon myself to contribute and rally friends and agencies to help those that needed help most. My friends from all over the Nation - came to the rescue of New Orleans and this help even reached the neighborhood - that helped itself - Broadmoor.

Broadmoor is indeed a shinning example which makes my next point - all the more - pertinent.

In San Francisco we have a neighborhood that is called Bayview Hunters Point.

Bayview Hunters Point shares a lot with Broadmoor. If the Big One strikes - many all over San Francisco will be adversely - impacted. In the Bayview Hunters Point - understanding the stand offish dynamics of Mayor Gavin Newsom and his cronies - we, the poor expect no - help.

The Office of Emergency Services talks the talk - but cannot walk the walk.

Broadmoor has Block Captains - can Bayview have Block Captains - to begin with.

Broadmoor has Black and others of color - we in the Bayview Hunters Point share this aspect.

Broadmoor is a Neighborhood that is well organized and was well organized before Katrina.

The Bayview Hunters Point is NOT - and is further divided by Injunctions and a Rogue Company - named Lennar.

Lennar has bombarded our children, our elders - others, with heavy metals, radiological elements, Asbestos Structures and so on. Just google Bayview Hunters Point and you will be astonished, bewildered, perplexed, and confounded - to learn about Cumulative Pollution.

Bayview Hunters Point has NO plan in case the Big One strikes - the Big One is an Earthquake -
for those of our Sisters and Brothers - that may not understand this terminology.

So, why is San Francisco sending City Officials to Broadmoor and spending City money in the thousands? Even, bending backwards to map and photograph the Broadmoor Neighborhood - Block by Block - and all that is very, good. I said - very good.

So, do we have a plan that addresses - Rescue Operations linked with the Bayview Hunters Point and incorporated by the Office of Emergency Services - in the OES - Blue Print for Rescue and Emergency Services.

I say this because I know the Big One is at hand - so are we prepared? Are we prepared Mayor Gavin Newsom - future aspiring - Governor of California?

Can the many bodies and that includes Walter Shorestein who has milked the City and County of San Francisco and is even milking the Financial District in Oakland - can this sage, an old man, that should know better - offer some mulha - to help us out - in the Bayview Hunters Point?

Walter Shorestein is aware of Oakland and the Acorn Projects - but, I could give him a better tour of the Oakdale Project and the AIMCO projects and enlighten - this sage that I have known for a long time.

May be he can be joined by Richard Blum, Nancy Pelosi, and Diane Feinstein in this tour of sorts at our expense. We can offer them Hetch Hetchy water - much as Obama and Hillary was offered in their short meeting at Diane Feinstein's home in Washington DC.

Let all San Franciscans be warned - let us NOT permit Spin and Media - take us way from Bayview Hunters Point.

No one can harm children and our revered Elders - and get away with murder. Be is Lennar or anyone.

Broadmoor is good for some - but in our back yard - Bayview Hunters Point is better.
