7/11/2008 SF Labor TV On Puerto Rico SEIU Labor Imperialism And The 2008 SEIU Convention
This past June, the SEIU had their International Convention in Puerto Rico. The convention was hit with protests by Puerto Rican teachers who accused the US based union with raiding their union and "labor imperialism". At the same time SEIU rank and file elected delegates challenged the top down centralized corporate structure being imposed by the SEIU Stern administration. This program looks at the issues that were debated at the convention and what is behind this political agenda.

Labor On The Job
On the 110th anniversary of the invasion of Puerto Rico by the United States in 1898, the SEIU held it's international convention on the colonial island. The convention was met with a militant demonstration by The Federation of Teachers of Puerto Rico FMPR. This Labor On The Job show will show the reasons Puerto Rican teachers are protesting the support of a Principle and Supervisor's union by SEIU leaders Denis Rivera Hickey and SEIU President Andy Stern. It will also show the the anger of SEIU delegates who protested when police were called to attack and beat the teachers as the convention was put in "lockdown".
Finally it will look at the issues of union centralization, corporate unionism and why a growing number of SEIU members are in open rebellion against the political and organizational agenda of SEIU president Andy Stern.
