Newsom Takes Step Toward Race For Governor

by via 365 Gay
Wednesday, July 2, 2008 :(San Francisco, California) Mayor Gavin Newsom has taken his first public step toward seeking higher office, filing papers to form an exploratory committee for a potential gubernatorial bid in 2010.
Newsom, a Democrat best known for challenging California's ban on same-sex marriage in 2004, is six months into his second and final term, which expires in 2011. Speculation over whether he would run to succeed Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has pursued him since before his re-election, but the mayor always deflected it by saying his attention remained fixed on the city.

The establishment of an exploratory committee will allow Newsom to start raising money and conducting polls. In announcing the committee Tuesday, Newsom's campaign consultant, Eric Jaye, said it demonstrated the mayor's custom of "listening to people before acting" and that would allow him to launch a campaign "from a position of knowledge and strength."

"He is looking forward to having a dialogue with Californians about their future in the coming few months," Jaye said in a statement.

If he ends up entering the race, one of the 40-year-old Newsom's opponents for the Democratic nomination could be a man 30 years his senior: Attorney General Jerry Brown, who previously served as governor from 1975 to 1983. Brown has said he's thinking about trying to reclaim the job. (He can run again because current term limits were not in place when he was governor).

Brown, 70, hasn't established an exploratory committee devoted to the governor's race, but he has changed the name of his campaign committee from Jerry Brown for Attorney General to Jerry Brown 2010. The committee reported taking in more than $200,000 in donations during the last two weeks.

Mayor Gavin Newsom as soon as he finishes his term as Mayor - should go chill out. Remember, some months ago the guy - was experiencing a nervous break-down. He should spend some time in Montana - learning to fish and stay there for as long as he can - to heal his nerves.

Solely, based on this Queer Backing Of Issues that may help San Francisco but has nothing to do with the top priorities of California as a whole. Gavin has nothing to offer in terms of fixing our Economy, Energy Issues, Infrastructure, our Schools, our Families, our Health, Safety, Housing and so on.

In the Bayview Hunters Point - hundreds of children and elders were poisoned by Lennar - Mayor Gavin Newsom has not said a word. Mayor Gavin Newsom is backing Lennar a corporation that is declaring bankruptcy - all over this Nation. Closer to home Vallejo, California and Richmond.

In San Francisco Gavin Newsom takes more care of his hair then his constituency.

There is only much play with Queer Issues - after all most of us do not care what folks do in their privacy. Many of us do not want Queer Issues per se - forced down our throats. Much as Queer folks do not want so called straight issues forced down their throats. There is something called - over kill and that can back fire - in the behind.

Gavin Newsom showed us his true colors when he screwed his best friends wife who was straight.

Gavin has no second thoughts about ruining a family.

Gavin separated from his first wife - he is Catholic at least by name. Now, he has a second significant other. You never know - when he will dump - Jennifer. But, that is his private business.

There is what I call a moral compass - Gavin Newsom has none of that - he thinks he can do as he pleases. Gavin Newsom cannot take us to a better place.

My subjective opinion is more on Public Issues and policies - the man cannot discern, cannot choose his priorities, he talks the talks but cannot walk the walk.

He said he would help improve our transportation - he has failed. He did say he would resign if he did not improve Health and Safety - to date we have over 53 registered shootings and killings. Our roads are not fixed there is a $300 million back log.

He wants us to drink tap water. Over 2000 miles of clean water pipes in San Francisco are over 75 years old and leaking. So, it does not matter to Mayor Gavin Newsom that children, elders, and others drink water that is contaminated with mercury, lead, and what have you. The end product that reaches your tap - is what matters. He talks the talk but cannot walk the walk.

We have a population of 760,000 in San Francisco. We also have a population of over 110,000 dogs. For every 26 constituents we have on City and County of San Francisco - City worker. Go figure.

Gavin has been hiring cronies in Room 200 where he makes his abode - mostly doing nothing. Playing to the Press and doing a lousy job. His annual budget address - he chose to give at the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard - on Navy Property in building 606 - in middle of a Superfund Site.

He invited only select folks. That tells you something - the man is afraid of facing reality. Why have such an important meeting in the middle of Chernobyl? Well, he is afraid of good, decent, folks asking him the right questions.

Gavin Newsom is a coward always running away from reality - no one really knows for sure - much about this Dipstick. But, that is another question to be answered at another time.

This talk about running for Governor is a joke - and when the time comes - he will be in for a real shock. We need a real woman or man that can serve all of California as Governor - not a segment of Californians for all the wrong reasons.
