Wednesday, June 18, 2008 :Longtime NOW members Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon have been leading feminists and lesbian activists since they founded the first lesbian organization in the 1950s. Together they wrote Lesbian/Woman, and Del wrote the groundbreaking book Battered Wives, among many accomplishments. We all owe a great deal to these pioneers, and were delighted to see San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom honor them with the very first legal marriage of a same-sex couple in California.

Join us in sending congratulations and thanks to Del and Phyllis -- congratulations on their long-awaited legal marriage, after 55 years as partners, and thanks for many years of dedicated feminist activism and leadership.
