Camp Pelosi: "Pray-In" Thursday May 8th 10am

Join CODEPINK Thursday May 8th @ 10:00am for a "Pray-In" at Camp Pelosi, 2640 Broadway (@ Divisadero) in the Marina District of San Francisco.

Help us hang a wreath of the Iraq war dead at Pelosi's house. Bring prayers, poems or writings to share.

CODEPINK Women for Peace held an all-day week long vigil in front of Speaker Nancy Pelosi's Pacific Heights home in San Francisco. During the vigil, they urged Speaker Pelosi not to give the President another blank check to sustain the war in Iraq. CODEPINK activists paid visits to the Speaker's congressional offices in San Francisco and Washington DC. They culminated the week long vigil with a creative "March of the Dead" to St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, where Pelosi is a congregational member.

It looks like the House will be voting on the $178 Billion supplemental this Thursday, May 8th. It is unbelievable, unconscionable and outrageous that the House leadership is once again daring to consider handing $108 billion of our tax dollars to Bush for the continued occupation of Iraq. Plus, they are deciding to give an additional $70 billion he didn't ask for. Speaker Pelosi has the choice to send this bill to the floor or not! She has already courageously refused a surveillance and trade bill.

At a time when money is urgently needed in our communities, the new bill would bring the total for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan to an unimaginable $874 billion. By including FY09 funding, the Democratic Party House leadership is effectively taking the war off the Congressional agenda for the rest of this year. This might be our last opportunity to fight a war funding bill before the next President takes office and the new Congress is seated.

Make a critical call to Speaker Pelosi at (415) 556-4862.
Tell her "No!" on this funding bill.
Tell her its long past time to bring all the troops home and end the war.
Tell her to stop playing political games while lives are being lost.

Don't let the House Democratic leadership take us for granted. If this funding bill passes, Congress will have handed Bush $874 billion for the illegal war and occupation of Iraq. With this funding bill, they are laying the groundwork for the next president to continue the occupation. We must send them a message that the voters will remember in November!
