Top University to Confer Honorary Doctorate on Woman who Condones Rape

On March 28, 2007, while speaking at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, Phylis Schlafly said: "By getting married, the woman has consented to sex, and I don't think you can call it rape."

Two weeks from now, Washington University in St. Louis will confer an honorary doctorate upon Schlafly during commencement. In addition to her tireless opposition to LGBT equality and her endless anti-feminist vitriol, Schlafly publicly condoned marital rape. Students Washington University in St Louis are outraged, but the university is governed by an extremely conservative Board of Trustees (who, among other things, disbanded the sociology department for being "too radical"). Protests and disruptions are planned during commencement. However, we would like to pressure the university to rescind its invitation to Schlafly.

Please flood the Chancellor's office with phone calls, emails, and faxes and let him know that RAPE IS NEVER RIGHT, and that by honoring Schlafly the university would be complicit in condoning marital rape.
