Tim Wise, one of the most prominent anti-racist writers and activists in the U.S., will be speaking on Friday, April 4th, 2008 at 7:30 pm at the First Unitarian Church of Oakland, 685 14th St., Oakland CA. Tickets are $12 - $20 sliding scale for general admission, $8 for youth 18 and under. Wise is the author of two books, White Like Me; Reflections of Race from a Privileged Son (Soft Skull Press) and Affirmative Action: Racial Preference in Black and White (Routledge). He has spoken to over 300,000 people in 48 states, and on over 350 college campuses. From 1999-2003, Wise was an advisor to the Fisk University Race Relations Institute, and in the early ‘90s was Associate Director of the Louisiana Coalition Against Racism and Nazism, the largest of the many groups organized for the purpose of defeating neo-Nazi political candidate, David Duke.
