Peaceful protesters prevail at parking lot #4 despite the foolish 15 minute provocateur!

by Tim Rumford (sleepisaright [at] live.com)
Short video to music of peaceful community defiance of 15 minute panic law and foolish 15 minute provocateur! Beware of this man, watch video number 2 for details.

Thanks to the many who showed up on Wed the 6th and defied the 15 minute Panic Law. You can sign an on-line petition against this law at
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/End-the-15-minute-Trespass-law

There are many interesting comments supporting the end of this law building at this petition started less than 24 hours ago.

I was filming. Due to health issues I have been unable to show up and show my support physically during past protests. Due to the lack of police on this day, and me in charge of the videoing, I decided to simply shoot the fun, and put together a short video of the peaceful event to music. Shoppers from the market came and went, the drummers kept a steady flow of music and many people signed the petitions. People from out of town were appalled at the law.

The day was wonderful, kids and people dancing, Food Not Bombs fed, people associated without fear of arrest or citation.

During the filming a man came , surveying the crowd at the sidelines. He then kicked over signs, started an argument with some people far from me, and then came and assaulted me twice. I did not call the cops because that is exactly what this fool wanted, to bring violence to the circle and provoke others. I decided doing so would only bring the police, and ruin the vibe.

I can't say he did not hurt me. I have a metal rod in my spine and when he grabbed my camera he also grabbed me and put the ball of both his fists into my back, right where my surgery was and twisted. He then tried to twist the camera from my hand and had his leg behind me in a standard move to take me down. He assaulted me twice. I ask you all to pay more attention and watch out for your fellow brothers and sisters.

He backed off when I would not give in and Robert pulled him off me, twice. Plus I had a Vulcan Grip on my new camera and he could not take it. Ironically, he spent almost exactly 15 minutes provoking people and left. Beware of this man. If he isn't a cop then his mother should dress him differently. Remember, stand up for those standing with you.

I addressed this scene in the second video in the most... humorous way I could.
We need to work together to end this law, and restore our rights.

Peace

You tell me that some guy was assaulting you, although there is no video of that. And then you suggest that he's a cop. But what I SEE is what appears to be the average drum circle participant. Not a cop; the cops are not riding in on undersized childrens bikes to assault you.

As much as you want to suggest that possibility, we both know it's not a reality. And we know that because obsessive Robert knows every cop in the county, and you'd be posting the guy's name in bold faced font if it was a cop.

So let's keep it real: you were interacting with a run of the mill street person; the very type that makes a lot of run of the mill Santa Cruz residents uneasy and unsupportive of your agenda to turn the town over.

You're on the far, far fringe. You're complaining that the Elm Street Mission is too demanding in how they distribute free food. Robert is lambasting the ACLU as too conservative. You're both members of the 1/10th of 1% club who refuse to acknowledge that their opinion is of the minority. You seem to think that if you yell louder, that the town will hear you and understand your message.

I think the town has heard you, but disagrees with your message.

I had some trouble playing the second video. It can also be found at http://humanityforhomeless.blogspot.com/ .

The guy in question did assault Tim. Since he had the camera (and the guy was trying to grab it), it doesn't appear.

The last (anonymous) troll/critic is wrong. The Parking Lot Panic Law would not survive a popular vote. It was ridiculous and outrageous to outlaw and ban innocent behavior in parking lots and garages as "trespass."

It's also clear the community seems to have the gumption to stand up this usurpation of public space. Apparently the "War on Terrorism" hasn't taken old here, much as politicians like Coonerty like to use its local equivalent.

No idea if the violent assailant was a cop. It was peculiar that the guy seemed calculated, restrained, and relentless in his continuing attacks (he was also biking around screaming the week before).

More subtle and more dangerous, however, is the kind of genteel bigotry from our faithful anonymous troll commentator. Dismissing real issues with ad homenen attacks is a recurrent theme in this thread.

Nonetheless readers should bear in mind that police have been forced to back off--in the face of peaceful pervasive public protest. Keep it up.
by The anon troll, or trolll Tim?
Don't put it on the table if you don't want it pushed back at you. It was Tim who coyly proposed that the provocateur was a cop. Typical that you took no offense at that premise, but balked when it was suggested that it was equally likely to be one of the parking lot regulars.

As for the popular vote? Personally, I'm more than happy to put it on a ballot. I'm willing to bet it will lose. And I'll also predict that that loss wouldn't stop your incessant complaining. The vote would come, you would lose, and you'd blame it on:

-Coonerty
-The spineless ACLU
-Excuse of your choice.

As for your contention regarding "Dismissing real issues with ad homenen attacks is a recurrent theme in this thread". Uh, mine was the first post, and yours the only response. Which posts exactly do you refer to when you say there's a recurrent theme in this thread? Perhaps you're confusing this thread with the other myriad repetitive threads you post in regarding the same issue.

(Congratulations on your new role as troll buster. Your t-shirt is in the mail).

I never said this gut was a cop, I said he dressed like one. He did attack me and it is on video, i just left out the audio. The audio was also recorded by two seperate tape recorders and played on Free Radio. I said he was violent. I never said a word to this guy. He wanted my camera becasue he thought I taped him doing illegal activity. So why would I lie and say I was attacked when I wasnt? All I said was watch out for this guy. If you agree with people attacking others while doing nothing. Then we diagree. If attacking others is just fine with you then go make friends with this guy I am sure he needs some.

"You tell me that some guy was assaulting you, although there is no video of that."

Tim has answered this, but I want to say that I witnessed the assault on Tim as well.

"But what I SEE is what appears to be the average drum circle participant."

I never saw him participate in the drum circle, but I did see him assault Tim, attack Robert Norse's table several times, and randomly assault another person who was listening to the drums.

Mutual support.

Whether the violent wingnuts are part of the largest, most organized, well-armed gang in town or whether the wingnuts are ordinary street-flavoured , people watching out for each other is a powerful tonic.

If you see something going down, cops or kids, crazies or bros, don't just pass by. Get involved and find out what's going down. Ask if people need any help.

This simple action goes a long way toward keepign people safe.

Rico,
Thanks for the common sense. Really thats all I wanted to convey. It should be said that he is not in any of the past 5 videos of every wed event since the Cops came and warned and afterward the community and the Trash orchestra came together.

Maybe I should of posted this differently. I just wanted people to be aware it happened and know it was him. This guy was very violent. Scared the girl doing her first interview ever I am sure as, it happened as she was interviewing me for a class project.

But your right and the real message is, watch out for each other. Were all in to together.
thanks
Peace
Tim

I'd like to point out my response to Robert from an earlier thread. That guy is definitely not me! I have an online reputation to keep... if only for what kind of bike I prefer!
