Copwatch on New Year's Eve

Date:
Monday, December 31, 2007
Time:
6:30 PM - 8:30 PM
Event Type:
Screening
Organizer/Author:
Robert Norse
Location Details:
gather at 1330 Pacific Ave.: Coffee Roasting Company on Pacific Avenue in downtown Santa Cruz.

The Coonerty City Council is at it again with Triple Fine Zones and massive police overkill downtown on New Year's Eve.

We're particularly interested in police harassment of poor and homeless people, disabled vets, young folks, and racial minorities.

We also take reports of "good" police behavior.

We'll meet at the Santa Cruz Coffee Roasting Company at 6:30 PM and keep an eye on some of the police squads that march up and down keeping an eye on the population.

Be advised the SCPD is now reportedly enforcing the Parking Lot Panic law (no lingering in parking lots or garages, except parking--and then only for fifteen minutes). Sgt. Flippo drove away the Wednesday drum circle in Parking Lot #4 next to the Farmer's Market last week. Next target is probably Food Not Bombs, if they haven't run for cover already.

If you plan to challenge police seizure of public spaces (specifically the parking lots and garages), let us know and we'll come over and document your resistance.

Otherwise Copwatch will pretty much be the same as Halloween, with the same noxious and safety-irrelevant Triple Fine Zones (see indybay story below).
