Homeless Encampment Targeted by the City of Fresno

by Mike Rhodes (MikeRhodes [at] Comcast.net)
Notice of Trespass and Clean-up signs went up at The Hill (the homeless encampment on G street, just South of the Rescue Mission) this morning. The “clean up” will take place on Friday November 30 at 8 AM. It looks to me like there are about 100 homeless people living at The Hill.

§The Hill

This is a photo of a part of the homeless encampment in downtown Fresno, known as The Hill. There are about 100 people that live at this encampment. New Jack City, which is located about a block East of The Hill has about 200 residents. The City may be attempting to push homeless residents into the new TOOL SHED CITY that has been established at the Poverello House (a social service agency located near The Hill). See http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2007/11/17/18461880.php for information about the TOOL SHEDS, which sources tell me are already full.
§Lots of Signs

City of Fresno workers put Notice of Trespass and Clean-up signs on G street today. The notice warns residents of The Hill, a homeless encampment in downtown Fresno, that a “clean up” will take place on Friday, November 30. Where will residents of The Hill go? The notice did not offer any suggestions about where the city’s 8,000 + homeless should go. It just wants them to disappear from this location.
