"EYE ON MEXICO": JOHN ROSS CELEBRATES THE MEXICAN REVOLUTION - A BENEFIT TO BUY THE AUTHOR A NEW EYE AT NEW COLLEGE FRIDAY NOV, 16th

"Eye on Mexico" - John Ross celebrates the Mexican Revolution - will light up the New College Theater at 777 Valencia Street in San Francisco's Mission District, Friday November 16th from 7 to 9 PM. Donations accepted.

The multi-media montage is a benefit to buy the author-correspondent-poet-activist-human shield and globetrotting troublemaker a new eye. Ross's eye was severely damaged by a San Francisco police beating and it was removed on 9/11/07 but he cannot afford a fake one.

"Eye on Mexico" will focus on the Mexican revolution whose 97th birthday is November 20th and asks the pertinent question: is the revolution still alive? Ross has been an assiduous chronicler of revolutionary movements in Mexico for over 40 years and his written four books on the Zapatista Army of National Liberation.

In addition to a talk by John Ross, "Eye on Mexico", a section of a never-released film by the great Russian director Sergei Eisenstein set in post-revolutionary Mexico, will be shown on the big screen. The film, sometimes known as "Viva Mexico", was financed by California writer Upton Sinclair who pulled the plug when Eisenstein ran far over budget.

John Ross is a poet, author, and San Francisco Bay Guardian correspondent with eight books in and out of print including his most recent opus "Zapatistas - Making Another World Possible" and "Murdered by Capitalism - 150 Years of Life & Death on the American Left" which won the American Civil Liberties Union "Uppie" (for Upton Sinclair) award in 2004. John Ross is also a performing poet with nine highly subversive chapbooks to his credit ("Bomba!" is the most recent) and is bound to declaim a few select poems for the occasion.

John Ross is a sometimes New College Media Studies Graduate Program lecturer in rebel journalism. Buy an eye for this guy! Support Rebel Journalism!
