NO BORDERS ACTION CAMP - Mexicali Reporting on Attack
author: repost and translation from Progolfo
Reporting of the attack from the Mexican side.
November 11, 2007 -- approximately 4:30 in the afternoon, in the park near the border wall, there were around eighty people from the No-Borders camp in Mexicali and thirty from Calexico got together for a cultural activity [kissing-booth]. The border-patrol on the Calexico side initiated an operation and detained between twenty and thirty people using gas paint and tear gas. One compañero tried to help another compañera and was brutally attacked by more than ten border-patrol-policemen, and in the same way another compañero was detained by eight policemen, another compañero who is in a wheelchair was surrounded and attacked with tear gas.
The operation consisted of more than 100 immigration police. During the repression on the Calexico side, the compañeros on the Mexicali side blocked the border for ten minutes -- minutes later US-immigration closed nine of the ten car lanes to control the passage way [the border crossing for cars/trucks where some 70,000 cross a day].
At this time two people have been detained and the rest have been liberated. Of the two detained, one is accused of striking a police officer, the situation of the other person is not known.
A call has been made of solidarity actions in the next hours.
