Promoting Non-violence during Sri Lanka's Civil War / presentation by Dr. A. T. ARIYARATNE

Potluck dinner & presentation by the founder of the Sarvodaya Movement. Dr. Ahangamage Tudor Ariyaratne is the founder of the Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement, the largest peace, self-help and development organization in Sri Lanka. Sarvodaya is now the largest peace, self-help and development organization, promoting development from the bottom up in more than 11,000 villages.

Dr. Ariyaratne, is a former high school teacher at Nalanda College. He has lectured on five continents and at the United Nations in 2000. He has led tens of thousands of family gatherings, work camps and meditations with millions of people throughout Sri Lanka and the world. He has lectured on five continents, including at the United Nations in 2000, and has been nominated for the Northcote Parkinson Civil Courage Award, Hilton Humanitarian Prize, Seoul Peace Prize, Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion and Nobel Peace Prize.

In addition to being the subject of many books including Dharma and Development, by Joanna Macy, and the recently published Buddhism at Work, by Northwestern University Professor George Bond, Dr. Ariyaratne is author of Buddhist Economics, Bhava Thanha, a two-volume autobiography and seven volumes of Collected Works.
