September's Soap Box Lecture: Annie Sprinkle and Beth Stephens: "Love Art Laboratory"

Concerned with the prevalence of violence, war and moral divisiveness in the world at large, artists Elizabeth Stephens and Annie Sprinkle decided to offer society an alternative vision. After falling madly and passionately in love, they committed to spreading their love through art. On December 18th, 2004 they had an experimental wedding in New York City where they committed to exploring love as art for seven years, and thus became each other's official art muse and collaborator. Then they set to work on a variety of "Love Art" projects.

In the hopes of making the world a more fun, sexy, tolerant, well-educated, love-filled place, Stephens and Sprinkle will give a presentation about their "Love Art Laboratory" and it various manifestations.

Elizabeth Stephens is a Professor of Art and of Digital Art/New Media and is affiliated with the Department of Feminist Studies at the University of California, Santa Cruz. She is currently the chair of the Art Department. Stephens is an inter-media artist who works in sculpture, video installation, photography, web based media, performance art and home renovation.

In a former life, Annie Sprinkle was a proud prostitute, porn actress, and pin-up model in New York, for twenty years. She then became a performance artist and toured one-woman shows about her life in the sex industry all over the USA and many other countries. She is author of several books, including: "Post Porn Modernist," and "Dr. Sprinkle's Spectacular -- Makeover Your Love Life"

Sprinkle and Stephens are currently touring a two woman show: "Exposed: Experiments in Love, Sex, Death and Art"
