Nocturnal Visions is an exhibition of work inspired by the mystique of night and includes night photography, dark landscapes, light paintings, and artistic interpretations of the moon and stars. This exhibit will feature the works of Blake Tucker, Dean Gustafson, Natasha Dikareva and Wendy Robushi.

Once the sun goes down the world is enveloped in darkness, lit only by synthetic light sources and celestial bodies. Nocturnal Visions is an exploration of life after dusk, a time when the world slows down and sometimes heats up. The dark hours evoke an enigmatic, mysterious nature whether it manifests itself as an eerily lit ghost town, the moon’s reflection on a body of water, urbanity in its’ artificial glow, or the canopy of stars over all our heads.

Artists have long used the illusion of darkness to elicit metaphors of abandonment, solace, calm, or even evil. At night we see our world in a different way as silhouettes and shadows distort the forms of everyday objects and challenge our perceptions of reality.

Contemporary artists use the cloak of night to paint images that explore the curios of the dark. Like nocturnal animals that have specially adapted vision, they scratch below the surface and see into the shadows. This show aims to draw the viewer into the nocturnal palette of the artists.

About ARTworkSF:
ARTworkSF has supported the efforts of local artists through an exhibit program that delivers a fresh approach to the art world by taking their exhibits out of the conventional gallery space and into the community. Founded in 1992, ARTworkSF is a visual arts organization that supports the development of new work from emerging and established artists in the Bay Area. The ARTworkSF Gallery in San Francisco’s Union Square is now the hub of over 27 venues and presents over 100 artists annually and features monthly thematic exhibits in addition to solo shows. Other ARTworkSF programs provide art to local businesses, produce community cultural events and provide support services for Bay Area artists.
