Speaking at the twenty-eighth victory anniversary of the Sandinista government in Nicaragua, he slammed America's attempt to destabilize Latin America and sow discord among the region's countries.

Chavez called on the LA states especially those revolutionary independent ones to fortify their unity against the imperialist policies.

The Venezuelan President noted that all successful countries have gained their independency through unity.

He asked regional states to boost their integration by forming united groups and implementing joint programs like ALBA in order to gain full economic and political independency.

ALBA (Bolivarian Alternative for Latin America and the Caribbean) is a proposed alternative to the American-sponsored FTAA (Free Trade Area of the Americas). The program was introduced by Venezuela to counter the West's imperialist efforts to control the regional economy.

The Nicaraguan Sandinista government celebrated its twenty-fifth victory anniversary on Thursday. Presidents of Honduras, Panama and Venezuela and top officials from other LA countries attended the ceremony.

MANAGUA, JULY 20 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) -- Tens of thousands of Nicaraguans are at Plaza de la Fe in Managua on Thursday, to celebrate a new anniversary of the Sandinista Revolution following the overthrow of dictator Anastasio Somoza on July 19, 1979.

The anniversary marked Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) in power for the first time in 16 years.

A massive turnout was expected at the capital which will be presided over by President Daniel Ortega.

Esteli Mayor Pedro Calderon said that 12,000 people from all over the city were going to the 93 miles north to Managua.

Regardless of political affiliation, the FSLN return to power on January 10 has generated great expectations among Nicaraguans.

Some of the people's hopes are beginning to become reality already this July 19, but obviously all expectations are impossible to meet in just six months, asserted Commander Tomas Borge in a statement to Prensa Latina.
