Compañero Anarquista Brad Will

(Translated July 2007)

Our anarchist companion Brad Will, was vilely assassinated by the hired killers of the governor of the state of Oaxaca, Ulises Ruiz, while carrying out his informational work with Indymedia. It is worth emphasizing the importance of his work covering popular struggles, indigenous and union, across the American continent, from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, and Venezuela to Mexico (in this last one, covering the struggles of the peasants of Atenco and, recently, the resistance of the peoples of Oaxaca), offering opportune and truthful information that is deliberately omitted by the medias of mass (dis)information, historically in the service of the power of State-Capital. It is lamentable, in these moments of pain and rage, to see the always opportunist gravediggers of ALL REVOLUTIONS (from the French – passing through the Russian and the Cuban – to the Nicaraguan), the authoritarians of left, the hit-men and bureaucrats of the capitalism of the State, of the "more human" Capitalism they offer (as always), carrying water for their mill and throwing their hand to a fallen companion in the libertarian insurrection to increase the martyrology of left. Therefore, we make public the interview carried out with companion Brad Will, for the Venezuelan anarchist publication " El Libertario", during his stay in Caracas, motivated by the Alternative Social Forum, this past January, as a counterpart to the World Social Forum in the fold of chavista officialdom.

Brad, in the days that he visited Venezuela, not only shared with Latin American anarchist and anti-authoritarian companions that had held the meeting in Caracas, to give continuity to the alternative forums that since the event of Sao Pablo, Brazil, came to be carried out in an autonomous way by different collective and organizations, as clearly and markedly distinct from the World Social Forum, abducted by parties and social democratic NGOs, pseudo-revolutionary populists; he also visited the indigenous territories of the Sierra of Perijá in the state of Zulia and spent time with the Wayuú, Yukpa and Barí people, accused of being "terrorists" by the government of Chávez, along with ecological activists and anarchists that are energetically opposed to the neo-liberal revolution of coal that has brought with it a large income for the Venezuelan State and 3,000 hectares of deforestation for the mining excavation and more than ten thousand people with severe damage to their health, many of them with lung disease and without any type of compensation, along with the merciless contamination of the water sources of the region.

These histories and this struggle of the indigenous peoples were also recorded by companion Brad.

See you soon, Brad!
