Ruth Gilmore reads from her outstanding new book, Golden Gulag, Prison, Surplus, Crisis and Opposition in Globalizing California. Ruth Gilmore is an Associate Professor of Geography and Director of the Program in American Studies and Ethnicity at the University of Southern California. She is a member of the founding collective of Critical Resistance, one of the most important national anti-prison organizations in the United States. Her book is easy to read, thoroughly researched and well-documented with lots of tables. It is clear that labor needs to be in the forefront of the prison and death penalty abolition movement.
