Help us to celebrate the ideals of freedom and justice: it's AAT's Fourth of July tradition!
Join us in San Francisco for pre-fireworks organizing to shut the prison at Guantanamo Bay and repeal the draconian Military Commissions Act of 2006. As you probably know, the MCA-2006 suspends the fundamental legal right of habeas corpus, allows the president to declare almost anyone an "unlawful enemy combatant," and grants immunity to U.S. officials for
their role in abusing detainees at Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, Bagram, and other torture-prisons.
We'll have our "Guantanamo cage," orange jumpsuits and black hoods, and printed postcards for people to send their congresspeople and senators demanding repeal of MCA-2006.
Please RSVP to ActAgainstTorture [at] riseup.net so we know how many will help us build opposition to erosion of basic human and civil rights. If you live closer to San Jose than to the East Bay, you may want to participate with a sister-action being organized by South Bay Mobilization (let us know and we'll put you in touch with SBM). If you and your friends are interested in organizing a similar event in another location, please tell us: we'd love to provide materials if we can.
