G8: Policeboot rams Greenpeace boat in g8 summit area
on the second day of the 2007 G-8 meeting in Heiligendamm, Germany, Greenpeace made a repeat attempt to enter the restricted water area of the old seaside resort with a fast inflatable motorboat, in order to hold up a sign with a statement about G8 priorities.
Several police boats responded quickly by overtaking and striking the Greenpeace skiff. All the Greenpeace activists went overboard into the water while wearing safety jackets.
The local Baltic sea sailboat enthusiasts have been bothered during the past two weeks by the extensive security efforts which have blocked people both from the waters in the vicinity of Heiligendamm, as well as the local forests and roads on land.
