Reasons for Mikirami or Gonzalez to Run for SF Mayor Now

by +
If we are to have a serious pro-rent control, pro affordable housing candidate for mayor of SF, they need to circulate their petitions in lieu of payment of filing fee now. We have a Democrat in the mayor's office who is refusing to carry out the legal mandate of the elected supervisors to pay for affordable housing. That illegal action should be sufficient to move either Green Supervisor Ross Mirkiarmi or Green former Supervisor Matt Gonzalez to run for mayor now, and we need either one of you now.

The schedule is listed on the Elections Department website at:
http://www.sfgov.org/site/uploadedfiles/election/Candidates_&_Campaigns/FinalNovemberCityCalendar2007.pdf

In case Messrs. Mikirami or Gonzalez do not understand the need, here are some pointers:
(1) We desperately need affordable housing. The homeless are everywhere, sleeping on every sidewalk and in every doorway they can. The election frauding fascist Democrat sitting illegally in office (Gonzalez won the mayor's race of 2003) has not solved any homeless crisis at all. To refuse to run for mayor is to support the outrageous gentrification of San Francisco, for that is what we are witnessing. The towers of condominium buildings are insulting and there must be a moratorium on this outrage immediately.

(2) There will be no "2008 campaign" if there is no 2007 campaign. You cannot expect to build any kind of base for the Green Party or any other pro-rent control voting community if you do not mobilize this community in every election. You certainly will have no campaign base in 2008 if you do not campaign in 2007.

(3) The 3 national and state elections in 2008 will not mobilize any workingclass base. The presidential election is just a referendum on the economy in a country of 300 million people. You can and should run protest candidates for all offices, but without a mass base, you certainly cannot expect to win any race above supervisor or school board in San Francisco. In case anyone has not heard about the millions of dollars being spent on this circus called the presidential election, in California we have the presidential primary on February 5, 2008; followed by a June 3, 2008 election for all other offices and the general election on November 4, 2008. Obviously, the Democrat-Republicans would rather waste our hard-earned tax dollars on political games with 3 elections instead of 2. Absolutely nothing worthwhile will be achieved and we can be sure the June election, and perhaps the February election will have a very low voter turnout. Thus, the mobilizing of the workingclass must be now, not in 2008. Our needs are now.

3. We are living in ever increasing fascism in this country. The way to stop it is to exercise our democratic rights at every opportunity. We must not give one inch to the reactionary thugs like election fraud Democrat Newsom and his greedy real estate profiteers. Our very lives are on the line.

If not now, when? If you are not for the workingclass, for whom are you for? Circulate those petitions now if you are not sure of support. I guarantee you, you will not have to pay any filing fee; you will have more than enough signatures. Now is the time to get off the dime.
