NO GAS...On May 15th 2007
Don't pump gas on may 15th
...in April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.
On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.
There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.
If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take
$2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companys pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.
If yo u agree (which I cant see why you wouldnt) resend this to all your contact list. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th"
EXTRA CREDIT: do not pump gas the next day or the next week.
MORE CREDIT: walk, bike, carpool, consolidate your errands.
THINK more. Consume less.

Pools for Berkeley is exploring the idea to build an aquatic center, possibly at the site of the former Adult School on University -- that would be heated, open year-round, have a circular slide, a jacuzzi, and other bells and whistles for kids and adults. We'd like to incorporate as many "green-building" practices as possible (solar, etc.)
There'll be a meeting to hear and discuss possibilities. Please come and
contribute your ideas! Tue May 15 at 7 pm

FREE Personal Evolution Intro | Tuesday Night Full Details:
http://evolutionaryawareness.com/events/intros/intro.php
**RSVP REQUIRED**
What: Introduction to Personal Evolution
When: Tuesday, May 15th, 7:00pm to 9:30pm
Where:The Arete Center for Excellence in SF
Have you found "personal development" to be incomplete? Have you found "transformation" to be lacking in its ability to last in your life? The perhaps you are ready for Personal Evolution...
Is there something stopping you from reaching your full potential? Something elusive you can’t quite identify? Do you experience something in the way of you having the kind of life you want and deserve? Does fear, anger, sadness, shame, guilt or for some, even grief, weigh you down unnecessarily? Do you often take things personally? Do you find yourself acting in reaction against, or in continuation of the patterns your parents demonstrated?
You would like to be free from significantly negative emotional events from your past? Truly free—to such a degree you are even grateful for them? Would you like to have a greater understanding of the power of your mind and the minds of those around you?
Have you attended personal development events and found them useful, but ultimately unfulfilling? Have you experienced “transformation”, but found it ultimately unpredictable or unsustainable without a rigorous community?
Would you be interested in freeing up so much of your essence that you were able live your life’s purpose—and prosper from it?
If you answered yes to any of that, join me for this free event.

This is the true story of Molly Craig, a young Aborigine girl who leads her younger sister and cousin in an escape from a government camp, set up as part of an official government policy to train them as domestic workers and integrate them into white society. With grit and determination Molly guides the girls on an epic journey, one step ahead of the authorities, over 1,500 miles of Australia's harsh outback in search of the rabbit-proof fence that bisects the continent and will lead them home. Come absorb some of the most insightful films, documentaries and commentaries across a wide spectrum of relevant topics of today and tomorrow. Urban Alliance for Sustainability's Green Movie Night provides a casual space for you to meet others in the local sustainability movement and encourages lively, open discussion. Local organizations working on the theme of the month participate in a Q/A discussion with the goal of creating effective collaborations and solutions. Afterwards, conversation continues down the block at Elixir (http://www.elixirsf.com), a Green-Certified business offering Green Movie Night attendees $1 off any organic beer, wine or mixed drink with your ticket stub.
Movie Night Details:
Doors open at 6pm, speakers and film start at 6:30pm. Seating is limited and we'll start promptly so you are encouraged to come early. Admission is $8 or $4 for students/seniors, payable at the Roxie box office two doors down.
This month UAS is honored to co-host Green Movie Night with special guests Odin Zackman of Dig In and Katrina Zavalney of City Repair (http://www.cityrepair.org).
Movie Description:
Earth Walls: Cob and Straw Bale Construction in Wisconsin
Organizers, entrepreneurs, and community volunteers at Madison's Willy St. Co-op and in rural Wisconsin build with cob for a community place-making project. Participants celebrate the fun of natural building and talk about how to change conventional construction so that similar projects can catch on in cities. Includes demonstrations of foundations, cob mixing and wall-building, and lime plastering.
Placemaking: An Antidote to Sprawl
Placemaking--local efforts involving residents, city government, the business community, and other stakeholders to identify and revitalize underutilized public spaces--can provide a framework for design improvements that will transform a community's public spaces into a network of vital, comfortable community places. The process upgrades existing public spaces through small-scale, short-term projects such as traffic calming, pedestrian improvements and street furniture. In partnership with Livable Oregon, The Project for Public Spaces conducted placemaking workshops in cities and towns across the state of Oregon, and this 15-minute video uses these towns as case studies to illustrate the principles of placemaking.
About Urban Alliance for Sustainability (UAS):
UAS seeks to integrate and inspire the sustainability movement in the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond. By returning focus to solutions instead of problem statements, UAS hopes to activate the energy of those individuals and organizations that are feeling overwhelmed or helpless in this currently unsustainable world. Repairing California Democracy: Challenges and Solutions
Tuesday, May 22, 2007 Noon to 1:30 p.m. Light lunch will be provided
Library and Courts Building I 5th Floor 914 Capitol Mall Sacramento, California 95814
Featuring: Steven Hill Director, Political Reform Program
New America Foundation Author: "10 Steps to Repair American Democracy"
There is a widening breach between most of the 35 million people residing in California and the fewer than 9 million who actually vote. Seven million Californians are eligible to vote but for one reason or another don’t bother. A small group of frequent voters -- who are richer, whiter, older and hold different opinions on education, social spending, Prop.13, and more compared to their nonvoting neighbors -- form the majority that decides which candidates win and which ballot measures pass.
Thus, two Californias have emerged -- a small group that votes and an even larger group that does not, with only one side electing political leaders who divide up the pie. The crucial challenge for California’s future is, how do we open up our political system so that it turns the non-voters into voters, and appeals to the broad interests of all Californians? What political reforms will allow California to realize its promise? Will redistricting reform accomplish it? If not, what other reforms are needed?
Please RSVP to bustamante @ newamerica.net or call 916-448-5189 if you have any questions.
New America Foundation is an independent, nonpartisan public policy institute based in Sacramento and Washington, DC. With generous support from the James Irvine Foundation, its purpose is to bring exceptionally promising new voices and ideas to the fore of our nation's—and California’s—public discourse.

Please come and

http://evolutionaryawareness.com/events/intros/intro.php

Follow the sign at the boathouse to the SF Nature Education observation site. Heron Watch is free of charge. As a non-profit, a suggested donation of $10 is appreciated.
