Ocean Beach Bonfires Back in Custom Fire Pits: 4/14/07
Bonfires were re-introduced to the beach April 14th with six custom fire pits designed by various artists, and two open pit fires.
After nearly being banned as a result of trash and open fire pit debris, bonfires are back at San Francisco's Ocean Beach due to the work of Burners Without Borders, a group of Burning Man attendees, and the Surfrider Foundation. The two groups, along with other donors and volunteers, have agreed to provide permanent custom fire pits and to maintain the beach. On this first night back, there were drums, a small sound system, light sabers and even a fire twirler amongst the dozens of beachgoers. Fundraising is still on-going to provide for another six new permanent fire pits.
